Orang Utan Island
Your private tour of Taiping & Orang Utan Island from Kuala Lumpur kicks off with hotel pick up by your friendly and professional driver. 4 hours drive northbound along the North South Expressway brings you to the sleepy community of Bukit Merah town passing through small palm oil plantations and pineapple fields. On arrival, board the ferry boat heading to the Orang Utan Island. Step ashore and amaze yourself with the ‘People of the Jungle’ or Orang Utan, an endangered species. Scientifically identified as very smart animals, Orang Utans have one of the longest birth intervals, on an average, once in every 8 years. Enjoy the hour & half at this dedicated rehabilitation sanctuary. Capture lots of photos for your remembrance.

We booked at the last minute on TripAdvisor (10pm), and the tour should have started at 7am the day after. The provider was quick to get back to us, and everything was finalised and clear that evening. Alwin, our driver, was at the hotel lobby perfectly on time. He drove us around all day, telling us facts about the places we would be visiting and explaining how Malaysia is a cultural mix of different religions and ethnicities. Alwin was very attentive and always happy to help. A particular shout-out to our driver for driving us back to the hotel (a 2.5-hour trip became an odyssey of almost 5 hours because of the traffic). Only negative side, the mangrove forest was closed since June and we were not aware of it.
