What To Expect
Musee de l’Orangerie
Situated in the beautifully manicured Tuileries Gardens, the Orangerie transformed into a museum in the early 20th century when Paris’s over-crowded museums needed new galleries. The Orangerie most famously houses the series of various waterlilies Monet granted to France thanks to his friendship with George Clemenceau, which earned their own private gallery space. The expansive collection of 19th century and early 20th century paintings features works by other famous Impressionists and those who came after. View Cezanne’s studies of fruits and flowers, seductive portraits by Matisse, and various phases of Picasso’s career through several nudes. Other artists including Modigliani, Renoir, and Utrillo, all make the Orangerie a must-visit for anyone who appreciates French art and the Impressionist movement.

5.00I really enjoyed the tour that Elena gave us. She shared extraordinary facts about Monet's life. Additionally, the visit to the lower gallery was very pleasant, where she narrated more about the works and authors.

5.00Dunja gave a great tour. It was the right pace. It was informative enough but did not feel like a lecture. She added insight about how the architecture and lighting impacted the artwork. She kept us engaged. She also did a grea job explaining the use of color. I would recommend her.

5.00Our guide, Emilie, was excellent. We were caught up in traffic and a few minutes late and it was no issue. Emilie was extremely knowledgeable about the pieces in the Orangerie and told us a lot of interesting back stories about the artists. We can’t wait to come back to Paris and explore more now that we know so much more about the artists. Also, a quick shout out to the Orangerie, which is the hidden gem of the Paris Art museums. A great, yet small, collection. 5 stars!
