March through November, daily; limited dates in the off-season!
Our tours include more than St. James Court. We see twice as much as other neighborhood walking tours, visiting Ormsby Avenue, Park Avenue cottages, Floral Terrace, the Witches' Tree, and Millionaires Row. Bourbon barons, racetrack royalty, and titans of tobacco settled here in the 1800s. Today, impressive Victorian mansions and quirky residents have earned national attention for Old Louisville.
Author David Dominé often guides groups himself. The New York Times recommends his tours as a MUST during a visitor's "36 Hours in Louisville." Learn more in A DARK ROOM IN GLITTER BALL CITY, David's next book—out in October 2021!

With more than a thousand structures spread out over 40 square blocks, Old Louisville is one of the largest historic districts in the United States. This is a transitional neighborhood and you should expect to encounter things you would in any larger city. Panhandlers and homeless people, for example, are often found along Fourth Street at the north edge of the neighborhood. This is a walking tour and we do not enter any structures, as most of the houses in Old Louisville are private residences. We do stop in front of the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum, and you can arrange with them to tour the mansion for a fee.
The Witches' Tree
A gnarled tree rose up on the spot where a tree cherished by local witches once stood. When the city chopped down the original tree, townsfolk incurred the wrath of the crones, who sent a tornado to destroy the city in revenge. Visitors often leave offerings on the twisted trunk to make amends.

David was a great guide through a really fascinating area. I had no idea that any such area existed. The homes and gardens must have been beautiful when first constructed. Our group of 3 joined another couple on a comfortable walk through the neighborhood. The pace was perfect, and David was quite responsive in answering all our questions. He talked to us about history, architecture, and societal changes through the years. I would recommend this tour highly to anyone interested in learning about the history of Louisville and the Victorian era in the U.S.

Our guide, Val, was fabulous. We were 2 groups of people all adults. She was good about including everyone in her questions and comments. It was a hot sunny day and she always looked for shade to keep us cool during standing times. The pace was perfect. The itinerary was a great mix of beautiful to look at and historically significant places. I’ve been visiting Louisville for a year and would never have found these hidden areas. Pedestrian brick paths between mansions that are filled with trees and gardens. Fountains on grand boulevards with beautiful buildings. It was all great. We will be back at Halloween and Christmas to see these hidden beautiful places! Kudos to Val for an engaging informative talk. My daughter and I have been on multiple tours in the last 3 years and agreed Val was the best. Thanks for a great afternoon. Don’t change a thing.

Gabe was very knowledgeable and helpful in pointing out interesting details, comparisons, and contrasts between the various styles of the homes we walked past. The time flew by and we appreciated what we learned about Old Louisville. I had no idea about the area prior to this tour. I’m so glad my husband and I decided to do this.

Gabe did an incredible job explaining the historical significance of homes and the people who have built them, the various owners and lives of the homes-private home, apartments, back to private homes, historical societies. Clearly passionate about Louisville

Almost a 2-hour walk through beautiful Old Louisville neighborhoods, courts and terraces. Sidewalks uneven in places, but not bad most of the walk. David, our guide, was very knowledgeable with a sincere love for Louisville. With every penny.
