PLEASE NOTE THAT START TIMES FOR EACH WALK ARE DIFFERENT DUE TO THE TIDES AND YOU WILL BE SENT THE START TIME FOR YOUR CHOSEN DATE.
The route across the sands at low tide is atmospheric, evoking the time of Saxon Kings and Celtic Priests. We are likely to see and hear Grey seals as they bask on the sands. You will hear stories dating back to Roman times and can begin to imagine early pilgrims making the crossing to pay their respects to St Aidan and St Cuthbert. Holy Island is a special place and the best way to approach it is across the sands - walking barefoot if you want to get the most from your experience!
The walk is one-way to the island, returning to the start point in my vehicle after we have spent some free time on Holy Island.

Great walk, did it on a still sunny day, on a low spring tide barefoot with my boots strung around my neck. Great experience, what a lovely place. Had to put boots back on to walk back to Berwick.

First visit to Holy Island; wonderful weather and a pleasant walk while enjoying Ray’s stories that suitably set the context of the visit and the island’s special place in history. Thoroughly recommended.

We had a wonderful evening learning all about Cuthbert and Oswald from our knowledgeable guide Ray, whilst walking across the sands to Holy Island. This is definitely an experience not to be missed. In spite of a dodgy forecast the sands and sunset were magical. Thank you to Ray for being such a super guide and good company.

A wonderful way to walk as a pilgrim to Holy Island . Ray was a really friendly upbeat leader that brought the group together and shared stories along the way that were enjoyable and brought the whole experience alive with history. The weather was perfect. We stopped at one point to hear the seals in the distance- one of my highlights. I loved walking barefoot across the sand , it captured my pilgrims imagination. We had enough time on the island to discover the priory and gazed over to St Cuthbert island . A day like this creates a memorable experience and I would recommend to everyone. Thank you Ray , I’ll certainly recommend to my friends .

A lovely few hours walking and hearing about the history of the island, and listening to seals and curlews calling. Its an easy walk with bare feet or water shoes for the wetter bits. Going with Ray makes the scheduling easy and relaxing - no worrying about tides or how to get back!

A safe way to cross the sand/mud to Holy island. Footwear was optional, most of use chose to go barefoot across. Nice small group. Guide was knowledgeable and informative. Stopped a few times with some history, but not too long. Open to further questions if you had some. After crossing and on Holy island, had about an hour and a half of free time before being driven back. NB: the walk is one way and car lift back. You can not walk back due to the tidal times.
