What To Expect
Archaeological Park of Pompeii
I study archaeology and I have been a guide in Pompeii for 27 years: I still cannot believe how advanced Romans were! You will be surprised by the size and at the amazing state of preservation of the archaeological site. We will visit the Forum, ancient public baths, private houses, taverns, shops, theatres, and more. We will admire fabulously preserved frescos and mosaics that adorn the walls and floors of the ancient houses. We will walk at your own pace and I will make sure that everyone in your group understands what he is looking at. We will stay away from crowds as much as possible. The itinerary is flexible and I shall adapt to your will and needs.
Visiting Piazza Porta Marina is the perfect start to a fun and intriguing exploration of Pompeii, serving as the modern and ancient gateway that sets the stage for your entire journey. This expansive plaza is where you transition from the modern world into the archaeological park, passing through the ancient, dual-arched Porta Marina gate built right into the city's historic walls. The area immediately immerses you in history, positioning you within steps of key sites like the Antiquarium museum, where poignant casts and artifacts provide immediate context, and the intriguing Suburban Baths with their famous erotic frescoes. The excitement builds as you start your ascent up the ancient stone ramp of Via Marina, leading directly into the heart of the Roman Forum, making this starting point not only practical but also historically evocative and a truly engaging way to begin your adventure.

5.00Fabrizio was one of the best private guides and archaeologists for our well-traveled family of six, including two elderly adults and two small kids. He was highly engaging across all age groups and made ancient Roman history fun and exciting for both our 7- and 11-year-olds, as well as for my parents, who had already visited Pompeii. Fabrizio was both entertaining and deeply knowledgeable, sharing in-depth history and fun facts about Naples, Pompeii, and Herculaneum from the moment he picked us up in Naples to the drop-off back at our lodging. His car was pristine and comfortable, he gave us ample time at each site, and he brought us to a beautiful winery on Mount Vesuvius. He even brought a fun activity book for my younger daughter that he created with his colleagues. It was very unique and thoughtfully curated, with stories about the daily lives of Romans in Pompeii. We feel extremely lucky to meet Fabrizio and highly recommend him!

5.00We couldnt have asked for a better tour guide than Fabrizio. From the time we got picked up from hotel and dropped back at the train station , he was amazing. Talking about the history of Naples , how the volcano erruptions impacted the area and ofcourse the knowledge about Pompie ruins and the stories, facts and myths - he kept our tour very interesting ! Thank you for providing us a memorable time.

5.00We had the best day today on this tour. Fabrizio picked us up in Naples at our hotel. He was so knowledgeable about all the historical sites and his English was excellent, so it was very easy for us to understand what he was saying. In Pompeii, he took us on a different route than the other tourists so it seemed as if we were the only ones there. It was so nice to be out of the really crowded area and take our time soaking in the history. The lunch at the winery was lovely and then we finished the day in Herculaneum. We couldn’t have asked for a better tour! Communication pre tour was spot on, as he followed up to make sure we had everything we needed to make the day a success. I would definitely recommend him to any family looking for a more personalized experience!

5.00Our family (2 adults, 3 kids) has done many tours, and we all agreed that this was one of our favorite tours ever. Fabrizio is amazing! Knowledgeable, flexible, communicative, and most importantly he’s a gent you’ll enjoy spending the day with. It was a rainy day in Pompeii and Herculaneum with 3 kids (12, 11, 7) and an elderly parent. He managed it expertly and kept us as dry as possible, tailoring the tour to our interests and abilities. Strong recommend, would book another tour with Fabrizio in a heartbeat.

5.00I highly recommend this tour. I am certain this is the best way to experience Pompeii and Herculaneum. Fabrizio is knowledgeable, personable, and conveys his passion for these areas and the history of the region. We traveled with my in-laws who appreciated the customizable pace- they didn’t have to worry about keeping up with a group, and Fabrizio was mindful about choosing paths easiest for the (at times) unsteady walker. He tailored the physical and academic parts of our tour specifically to my group’s needs. And I highly recommend the lunch with wine tasting at the vineyard on Mt Vesuvius. It was a picturesque, delicious, and perfectly timed break between the two tour sites. Thank you again, Fabrizio, for being the highlight of our once in a lifetime trip to Italy!
