What To Expect
Pompeii Archaeological Park
Pompeii is one of the most significant proofs of Roman civilization and, like an open book, provides outstanding information on the art, customs, trades and everyday life of the past. The city has re-emerged from the darkness of centuries precisely as it would have been when it was unexpectedly buried in the thick layer of ash and lava which poured down from the devastating eruption of Vesuvius. The scale of the tragedy was appalling: in what had been one of the most active and splendid Roman centres, life came to a permanent standstill. The thick layer of volcanic material which submerged it, made up to a large extent of ash and lapilli - non-hard material, unlike that which covered Herculaneum and which solidified into extremely hard stone -has meant that the city has remained intact until the present day, not only as far as its buildings are concerned, but also as regards the contents inside the houses and shops, providing an absolutely fascinating picture of "daily" life.

Veronica was able to help us avoid the crowds while still efficiently hitting the top sites within the city.

5.00I highly recommend Discovering Pompeii!! This was one of our highlights in Italy. We booked a driver, who picked us up just outside the cruise ship. He messaged upon arrival, drove us to Pompeii directly to our own private guide. The guide was fantastic. So knowledgeable! Much more enjoyable with a private tour than a ton of people with an ear piece in. After our tour ended, we were brought to the same spot for pick up and a return to our ship. It was an excellent morning!! Pretty affordable for our group of 6, as well.

5.00Veronica is an amazing and passionate guide who has such a wealth of knowledge not just of Pompeii but of the entire region! The history (also pre-roman) including political and geological context was very clearly explained. My daughter is learning about Greek and Latin mythology and she and Veronica could not stop talking about the various stories that came up in fresco's and statues. What was originally meant as a 2 hour guided tour ended up being a full morning of great conversations and passionate storytelling that really helped us visualize and understand life in Pompeii. Now we finally know where the red horn is really coming from 😀.

5.00We booked a guided tour of Pompeii with Veronica. Guide prepared, experienced, nice and very dedicated. He took us to see houses, shops, temples, casts etc.. It was a journey into the past, a beautiful walk full of emotions. The whole group was happy with everything. We will return, but this time Veronica will have to take us to Herculaneum. Thank you 😘
