Carite Forest Reserve
The Carite Forest Reserve, located within the Sierra de Cayey mountain range in southeastern Puerto Rico, is a protected area recognized for its ecological richness and scenic beauty. Spanning portions of the municipalities of Cayey, Patillas, Guayama, and San Lorenzo, the reserve rises to over 900 meters above sea level, creating a cool, humid climate that supports diverse ecosystems. Its dense vegetation includes Sierra palms, ferns, and numerous endemic and native tree species, while its fauna features the Puerto Rican broad-winged hawk, the elfin woods warbler, and several species of coquí frogs. In this tour we will hike two of the forest's trails the Charco Azul trail, a short hike leading to a striking blue natural pool surrounded by lush tropical forest, and Los Tres Chorros, a scenic area featuring three cascading waterfalls and natural swimming holes.
Guavate
Guavate, known as “La Ruta del Lechón” or The Pork Highway, is a lively mountain community in the town of Cayey, famous for its roasted pork and festive atmosphere. Stretching along Route PR-184, this scenic road winds through the lush hills of the Sierra de Cayey, where dozens of traditional roadside restaurants, known as lechoneras, serve slow-roasted whole pig (lechón asado) alongside Puerto Rican favorites like arroz con gandules, yuca, and pasteles. In this tour, we will visit the main area of the route where the famous lechoneras, regarded as the best by Anthony Bourdain, El Rancho Original and Los Pinos are located. This main stretch features open-air terraces, artisan stands, and scenic views of the green Cayey mountains, creating a festive, family-friendly environment that blends gastronomy, live music on weekends and mountain charm. Whether you come for the food, music or atmosphere, Guavate’s Pork Highway offers one of the most authentic cultural experiences in Puerto Rico.

Adrian and Pedro gave us an authentic experience of Puerto Rico. From the nature, to the culture, and the food we experienced alot of the country in a short period of time. The pork was amazing and we also got to try some others local pastries and even gelato. We came in on a cruise ship so we didn't have a lot of leeway with time. Adrian and Pedro were accommodating to our needs. They even dropped us off close to the port. Just make sure you don't bring your best shoes as they will get muddy. Bring your appetite!!
