Authentic insight into the capital of Mauritius and the culinary world. With additional short visits to museums. You cover quite a bit of distance, so you should be in good walking condition.

Quite disappointing. The food was very cheap and not very unique (one dish was Chinese fried noodles) and a lot of walking and standing, including standing when eating. The tour was more of a walking tour with cheap food included, rather than discovering anything Mauritian or foodie. I have been on many food tours, and unfortunately was definitely the worst one.

Loving travelling and food we have done more than 30 food tours across many different countries. Sadly, this was the worst food tour experience we had so far. To begin with, the tour started 45 minutes late (11:15 instead of 10:30). We had to wait a very long time before finally starting. The tour was conducted in a mix of French and English. We paid for a 3 hour tour expecting to learn about the local food, culture, and history, but because the guide constantly switched between mainly French and limited English, it felt like we received less than one hour of proper information in English. The information itself was very general and we spend a lot of time rushing through the streets. The food was extremely cheap local fast food. Filling, but absolutely not worth paying a 50€ food tour: - One dholl puri/roti with tomato and bean filling – around 25 rupees (€0.50) - One banana pie piece – around 40–80 rupees (€1) - Another roti/farata Dahl with slightly different dough similar filling as first– again around 25 rupees (€0.50) - Fast fried Chinese noodles with one vegetable and one chicken dumpling – around 125 rupees (€2) - One local drink (Alouda or juice) – around 50–85 rupees (€1–1.50) After that, we were rushed through a local market where the guide briefly pointed at a vegetable and simply mentioned it was the local cucumber. We were taken into a very touristy mall that clearly catered only to tourists. Inside, he took us to a spice shop with extremely inflated prices. The guide told us he would leave for a moment to organise a “special surprise” only for us and asked us to wait there and buy some spices. The “special surprise” turned out to be a free tea tasting in a shop that was already openly offering free tea tastings to everyone, as clearly advertised on the door. The guide left us there because he had an important appointment, leaving us to do the tea tasting by ourselves. This was around 13:35. In total, we probably received no more than 40 minutes of actual information in English during the entire tour. The food value itself was not more than €5–7 in total, consisting mostly of cheap fast food, making the 50€ price completely unjustified. I am writing this review as a warning for other travellers so they can avoid wasting their money on this experience.

Our guide was the absolute best, I had a fantastic time, the food was amazing, a great variety, from sweet to savory, from Chinese, to Indian to creole to I don‘t have a clue :-). The walk through the town was amazing, the funny stories and history facts just made it sooo much better. And on top a fun group of poeple. thanks for everything and best regards grom Switzerland

We had a great time on this food tour. Our guide was a food blogger and recognized on the street multiple times. Loved his passion for food and his community. Definitely recommend.

If you don’t do anything else in Mauritius, this is the one thing you need to do. Christopher was the best tour guide we encountered on our trip! He was friendly, enthusiastic and humourous which added so much to the experience! We expected to just do food tasting but we got so so much more than that. Christopher explained the Mauritius history in detail, the colonial past, the different cultures, religions and taught us so much about the country, even down to the drains in the street. He also took us to the food market, craft market and to the museum! And he included an extra for us which was a tea tasting experience at Kuanfu Tea which was amazing! He also gave us dining suggestions for after the tour. This was really an amazing north tour! The food we tried was delicious and everything was clean and safe and well selected! The best food we ate in Mauritius was on this tour. Make sure to not eat too much before you go as the food you get is very generous and big portions and you want to try everything. Cannot recommend anything more.

The tour was a great experience. The guide is really well informed and has so much knowledge about Mauritius, it was also great trying different cuisines. We enjoyed the tour, we wish to come back in 5 years. 😉
