Hagar Qim & Mnajdra Archaeological Park
From here, we will proceed to visit the megalithic temple complex of Ħaġar Qim, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992. The complex is located on the southern edge of the island on a hilltop overlooking the sea and the islet of Filfa. These temples are among the most ancient religious sites on Earth and are described by the World Heritage Sites Committee as “unique architectural masterpieces” dating back to c. 3600–3200 BC; they are over 5000 years old, predating the pyramids of Egypt by approximately 1000 years! The site consists of a central building and the remains of at least two more structures. The large forecourt and the monumental façade of the central structure follow the pattern typical of Maltese prehistoric temples. Along the external wall, one may find some of the largest megaliths used in the building of these structures, such as a 5.2-meter-high stone and a huge megalith estimated to weigh close to 20 tonnes.

It was okay, we spent a long time waiting for the rest of our group to arrive before the tour started. As it was too windy, the boats did not run so we did not get to see the blue grotto or even the viewpoint advertised. The temples were fantastic but we only had tickets/time to see one of the temples at the complex.

We selected the Gun Post Bar pickup point as it was only 5 min from the place we stayed in. We were promptly picked up at the specified time and transferred to the collection point near Rabat. Everything was well organized. The English speaking guide had rather difficult to understand accent and even when she spoke into a microphone with a little loudspeaker, people at the back would hear very little.

It was truly an amazing tour. From the limestone tour to the Prehistoric Temple which was unbelievable, the final stop at the Blue Grotto was the best. The water and the coastline was awesome.
