5.00Captain Cody explained the history of the town and got us really close to the whales so we could take videos/pictures. Gave us a nice ride back showing beautiful mountains that surround Sitka!
Disappointing Whale watching tour

3.00The group was split in 2 different boats….6 & 6. We happened to get the tour directors staff worker. While she was kind and friendly, when we went to the first area to see humpback whales, she wouldn’t get as close to them as all the other boats in the area and we didn’t see any from that distance. After a long ride to another area and long time look at 1 eagle, she did take us to see some other whales (gray), But only After being asked to by another passenger and us. . When we arrived from a distance, we could see many whales. Again, she wouldn’t get nearly as close as SEVERAL other boats and we could see them but very far away. She seemed like she was timid to get as close as the other boats. This is disappointing because it was $400 for 2 people. While we know it’s not guaranteed to see the whales…it was more disappointing to know they were there and not have the boat captain get closer like all the other boats. I don’t feel she was as confident as the tour director was in the lead boat. Again, she was kind….but we didn’t pay $400 for just kindness. We did see some sea lions. To put things in perspective, we booked a second tour with another company on a different day. It was a bigger boat, with many more people. At first we thought this was a mistake….but WOW!!!!! The boat captain drove much much closer and ALL were able to see the whales much better. That convinced me that the difference was the captain. I don’t like to give negative reviews because I am in customer service as well….but I felt like I wasted both time and money. I usually have great experiences with Viator, but I suggest that this tour director needs to train this particular driver more. We would have seen much more with other boat.

5.00We loved the Whale Watching and Wildlife Tour with Captain Codi. We got to see humpback whales, sea lions, sea otters and eagles. The scenery was breath-taking. The boat was great with a heated cabin and plenty of room for the 6 passengers on the boat to see. We highly recommend this tour!
