What To Expect

Start in Syntagma Square, the popular Athens meeting point, at 10am for your 4-hour private tour of Athens cuisine with a local food expert. With 15 generous tastings of authentic Greek food, taste Athens while getting a unique glimpse into daily life. Begin with delicious crispy Greek pies prepared in a traditional bakery from the 1920’s. Made with layers of crunchy phyllo dough and steaming leeks (or spinach, or cheese), this local treat tastes best fresh from the oven. Over the course of the tour, taste handmade moussaka with smoky eggplant, stuffed tomatoes, mageiritsa (a traditional lamb soup), soutzoukakia (Greek Smyrna meatballs), and the dessert from the ancient Olympic Games. Visit the vibrant Athens Central Market, where fishmongers sling shiny octopus and butchers sell the freshest lamb near rows of ripe local fruit and piles of walnuts. We really enjoyed this food tour with Gari as our guide. It was just the two of us so we felt well taken care of and the discussion was really interesting and fun, combining the food, history, and culture of Athens. The quality of the food was excellent. I highly recommend this tour to do on day 1 or 2.

We had a truly unforgettable experience with Greeking.me on our recent food tour in Athens. My wife and I absolutely loved it! From the very beginning, everything was organized perfectly. We visited several different places — each with its own charm and unique taste — and got to try a variety of authentic Greek dishes. I wish I could remember all the names, but each one was delicious and felt like a real taste of Greek tradition. One of the highlights was a charming local coffee shop, where we enjoyed not only fantastic Greek coffee but also a peaceful moment that made us feel like locals, not tourists. What really made the tour exceptional was our guide. She was truly amazing — friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about Greek cuisine and culture. This was one of the best things we've done. Our guide, Gari, was wonderful - so knowledgeable about Greek food, history, mythology, architecture, culture and politics. She set the tour at our pace and answered every question thoroughly. She was also very kind and warm - a perfect welcome to Greece! We did this the second day of a 2 week trip and it set us up perfectly for what to expect for the rest of our stay. She even let us know what to expect in Mykonos, Santorini and Crete. 100% recommend!

So much fun! The ladies were knowledgeable and so much fun! This was the first thing we upon coming to Greece. Couldn’t have made a better choice. They personalized the experience for us. If you are think about it just do it. Great time and getting your bearings for the area with some good company!

The food trip with Manolis was absolutely fantastic! First of all, as this is a food tasting tour, it’s important to note that the food was absolutely amazing with a wide variety of sweet and savory. Manolis is super informative and even though it was a food tour he gave us so much information about the historical monuments along the way and recommended more places to visit. He also recommended a list of food places to try on our own time. Don’t eat breakfast before this tour as the portions are great and very filling!

We met with Maria in the square. Maria was extremely welcoming and friendly and made us feel comfortable from the beginning. Our tour to the coffee shops and specialty halva dishes in a plant based diner was the best halva we have ever had. At all times Maria explained the Greek culture and the people in the area. The meat, fish markets were very interesting and our dishes tried along the way to lunch and her experiences and explanations were very helpful. Lunch in a local eatery was a highlight as it was where the locals eat and not a touristy restaurant. When we were unable remember our Ship Docking gate… Maria calmly made a call and sorted it all out and then took us to a Greek yogurt Speciality stop and then to our Taxi. Thank you Maria for making our stop in Athens the most special ever !! You were terrific

Our foodie tour was outstanding. Niki our guide was so knowledgeable and explained the origins, cultural heritage, purpose, nutritional value and so much more about everything we ate and drank. I have been to Athens six times and have Greek heritage, so I thought I knew a lot about Greek food, but this tour taught me so much more. So, whatever your background, you will lave this tour.
