About 20 minutes south of Tulum, we have the opportunity to enjoy an incredible bird diversity, learn about the current Maya culture and the ancient Maya civilization as we walk and look for birds in the village and archaeological site of Muyil.
We explore different habitats in the village with different types of vegetation: mature semi-deciduous jungle in the archaeological site of Muyil and some fresh water wetlands as we walk through flooded jungle using a boardwalk until we reach a fresh water lagoon.
On this tour it is possible to identify from 40 to 80 species of birds (depending on the time of the year).
Depending on the availability of boats, there is also the possibility to add a boat trip across two lagoons and a lazy river floating experience to this tour. We float in a truly unique setting, listening to the sounds of nature, among mangroves, orchids & bromeliads. A calming experience like nothing you have experienced before.

We booked the private birdwatching tour in Sian Ka’an Muyil for a group of 4 and had an amazing experience, well worth the price. Our tour guide Claudio really made our trip unforgettable, he was very knowledgeable and accommodating, choosing the best trajectory for spotting our target species. We were lucky to see most species on our list including the Keel-billed toucan, Collared aracari, Lesson’s Motmot and many more. The tour also included a breakfast meal at a beautiful local restaurant which was very well-received after a few hours of birdwatching at sunrise. All in all, we would highly recommend this tour.

We did 2 birding tours, one in Yucatan with Miguel and one in Oaxaca with Edgar. Both guides were fantastic birders and super nice guys. Highly recommend!

Miguel was a professional and enthusiastic birding guide who really knew his birds, where to look for them and was good company too. We really appreciated stopping at spots along the road or in villages that you wouldn't normally do on your own to see different species. Recommended.

Good trip all round, punctual pick -up at 05:30, quick stop for coffee before arriving at Muyil. Birded the local gardens and jungle around the community. Good selection of species on offer , almost every bush had a bird in . Species seen included Spot-breasted Wren, Black-cowled Oriole, Yucatan Woodpecker, Rose-throated Becard, Cinnamon-bellied Saltator, Pale-billed Woodpecker, Piratic Flycatcher, Red-legged Honeycreeper, White-bellied Emerald, Scaled Pigeon, Brown and. Green Jay, you really could spend hours here. A short stop for refreshments and then entered the ruins. Birding here a lot more difficult in dense vegetation. However the guide , Claudio, seemed to have x-ray vision ! .Species here included several trogon’s, several woodcreepers , Bat Falcon, Squirrel Cuckoo, Masked Tityra, Bright-rumpled Atilla, American Pygmy Kingfisher and various tanagers , flycatchers and more. A very successful trip, highly recommended for hardcore birders.

The Muyil archaeological site is impressive for its fascinating diversity of birds. We were able to observe more than 40 different species across Muyil and the Sian Ka’an Reserve. We loved walking the trails, the jungle, the mangroves, the lagoon in search of “aves”, the tour is super complete, we did not miss an opportunity. The guide is an outstanding and passionate connoisseur, he explains all about the specificities of birds, their migration, their environment... We are very interested in birds with my husband and this is by far the best experience we have had in terms of knowledge and landscape. We would do it again without hesitation. Thanks again to our guide!

We signed up for a private bird tour of Sian Ka'an and Muyil via Mexico Kan Tours. Miguel was our tour guide and he. was. awesome. He picked us up from our hotel in Tulum (note: if you have your own car, you can meet him at the reserve and it'll knock some money off your cost) and drove down to the site, sharing coffee, bananas and homemade cookies once we parked. The first half of the tour was in Muyil, a community across the street from the reserve. Amazingly, we saw more than 50 species in just a few hours. After a delicious lunch at a restaurant near where the car was parked, we snagged another two-dozen species in the reserve. Overall, we saw 47 lifers in just a half-day's worth of birding. Miguel was friendly, communicative, helpful and incredibly knowledgeable about birds. Highly, highly, highly recommended.

My guide Miguel Amar Uribe, he was very knowledgable not just about the wildlife but also the area as well as the Mayan history. Miguel is very personable, easy to speak with and has a great deal of knowledge. Anyone that is lucky enough to use him as a guide will not regret it. Gracias Miguel, hasta la próxima
