What was life like in Hungary between WWII and 1990? Let’s travel back in time to discover the scenes that still keep reminding the locals of the former Soviet regime. What happened to the boots of Stalin? Where is the ‘biggest bottle opener of the world’? When will the bullet holes disappear from the old buildings of Budapest? This was by far the most amazing tour we have ever had and worth every pence if not more. It was tailored specifically for us. My son is passionate about History and was keen to learn more about the 1956 uprising. Suzy our knowledgeable tour guide arranged for us to meet her 90 year old uncle who lived through this period and he shared his experiences what life was like, listening to his stories first hand was a privilege that money can not buy. Feel very blessed to have met with this amazing gentleman. You will not be disappointed Suzy is absolutely amazing.

This tour was fantastic!! Suzy was amazing. She met us at our hotel and we immediately connected. She asked if we wanted the walking tour or a tour that included a broader scope. We chose the second and so glad we did. Suzy called a nice gentleman that came and picked us up in an older Trabant car. She gave us an incredible history lesson, showed us all the sights and even fed us a traditional Hungarian lunch. This tour was definitely one of the largest highlights of our vacation!! Suzy was incredible and we would highly recommend her.

Guided by my excellent and knowledgable guide Suzy, I visited the Memento Park featuring statues of the Communist era which had been uprooted from Budapest. Suzy gave interesting details regarding the history behind some of the statues and the experiences of her family during that time. Altogether, it was a thoroughly enjoyable and worthwhile excursion.

Our 4-hour Private Communist walking Tour and guide were excellent. Our guides English was perfect, and he was very qualified to speak to the citys communist history, both as to events and as to the personal experience of the citizens of Budapest. Besides that, he was a delightful and thoughtful person. Our guide really made us feel like we had experienced some of the things he had experienced. Our guides personal experiences made us feel like we were getting the straight scoop and not just what we wanted to hear. Logistically, the owner, Suzy, was great to work with. I highly recommend the CurioCityBudapest Private Communist Tour.

This tour gave a lens through which to view the city as it was during the time of communism. It put the many statues and monuments throughout the city in context, as well as ordinary buildings and squares. The two tour guides were obviously very passionate about the history of Hungary and even showed us hidden treasures known by locals. We learned a lot!

I've traveled to many places and many countries. I can say that this tour was the best one that I've ever booked. Curiocity was very easy to work with and met me at my hotel. No need to worry about getting to a central meeting location. My guide, Suzy, was awesome. She had a great knowledge of Budapest and it's past. She was able to point out so many important historical spots, some that I'm sure most locals don't even know. As an added bonus, she had a great knowledge of Budapest outside of its communist history and she also discussed the culture, broader history, and architecture of the city. I highly recommend booking with a tour with them.

We chose this tour to gain a deeper understanding of this period in the city's history and to see beyond the top tourist sights. With our fantastic guide Martin, we covered quite a bit of territory by foot and public transit. Martin is the perfect guide: knowledgeable, personable, and thoughtful. We highly recommend this tour.

If you want to go back in time and learn about the communist era of Budapest, this is a very interesting tour. We walked with Bogota in the cold but it was VERY interesting. Excellent way to also see some major landmarks, such as Parliament, St. Stephen's Basilica. Thanks Bogata!
