Angkor Wat temple has 5 concentric rectangular walls and also moats alongside. This symbolizes a cosmic chain of mountains and ocean. The central tower, which is the main tower, represents the mountain Meru, which is said to be the center of the Hindu and Buddhist universe.
Banteay Srei, or the Temple of Women, is a known jewel of Khmer art which dates back to the 10th century. This Hindu temple, having a smaller size compared to other temples, will mesmerize you with its artistry which you will find in the motifs, figures of gods, and also in the detailed carving.
Ta Prohm is a royal monastery that was built in the 12 century. The temple is located amidst the dense Cambodian jungle and is recognized by its labyrinth pattern of the Vines resting all over the ruins. There are giant tree roots of the vine which sprawl along the ground covering the whole structure.

Ta Prohm Temple
Ta Prohm’s original name was Rajavihara, meaning “monastery of the King”. It was built as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university. The construction of the temple is dated to 1186AD, but it is generally considered to have been added to and embellished over a period of several years. As Maurice Glaize comments in his appraisal of the temple, “While for some time all the various temples in the style of the Bayon were attributed to a single king – Jayavarman VII – during his twenty or so years reign, today it seems more likely that he could not, in such a short time, have done more than just transform, extend or complete already existing religious establishments with his mark.”
Pre Rup
Pre Rup was built as the state temple for King Rajendravarman in the late 10th century in either 961 or 962 AD. It was built only 9 years after East Mebon which is exactly 1.3km north. It’s not known exactly what the temple was used for, but the modern name “Pre Rup” suggests that it was used for funerals. French historian, Philippe Stern, thought that Pre Rup stood at the centre of a new city built by King Rajendravarman. However, this also hasn’t been confirmed. Pre Rup is historically significant because it was the second temple built after the Khmer capital city was moved to Angkor Thom after a period of turbulent politics. The capital was moved back from Koh Ker and then again to Angkor Thom where it remained until the end of the Khmer empire. Like most other temples in the area, it’s thought that Pre Rup was abandoned at some point in the 16th century.

We had an amazing time with our tour guide Chandra. Very knowledgeable guy. He took the time to tell us the history of the temples but also made sure that we did not suffer the heath. Chandra exided our expectations. Thank you so much for the amazing time spent together.

Our temple tour with Mr. Mean Chanra from Angkor Guide Tour was absolutely amazing! From the moment we met him, he was warm, friendly, and genuinely passionate about sharing the history and stories behind each temple. His knowledge of Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples is incredible, and he explained everything in such an interesting and easy-to-understand way. He also knew the best routes and quiet times to visit, so we could really enjoy each site without the crowds — and he helped us get some stunning photos too! It honestly felt like exploring with a friend rather than a guide. We left feeling inspired and with a much deeper appreciation for Cambodia’s culture and history. I couldn’t recommend Mr. Mean Chanra and Angkor Guide Tour more highly — it was the highlight of our trip to Siem Reap!

Our guide was extremely helpful with my companion who was on crutches with a hurt foot. Visiting the temples takes a lot of walking and he arranged being able to drive closer, use a moped and tuk tuk - she would have missed out on the spectacular sites without his help. We are very appreciative

Chanra was the best tour guide! Passionate and incredibly knowledgeable, ready to share historical and cultural knowledge of the area/region, and patiently took our questions. My husband and I have visited Angkor before, but we definitely learned a lot more this time around! Chanra was able to keep all of us (3 adults and 3 kids aged 10 to 16) engaged throughout. We went for the 2 day sunset/sunrise Angkor Wat tour. Chanra was great throughout, and ensured we had enough cold water to go around too. He's also great with photos! He knows the best spots and angles to take photos, and even taught us a new way of taking pictures! Highly recommended to anyone going to visit Angkor Wat! Thanks Chanra for the wonderful experience!
