Arachova
Arachova is a historic mountain village located on the slopes of Mount Parnassus in Central Greece. Its origins date back to the Byzantine era, though it flourished during the Ottoman period as a refuge for Greeks resisting Ottoman rule. Known for its strategic location and natural defenses, Arachova played a significant role in the Greek War of Independence in the early 19th century. The village was a base for revolutionary fighters, and its people actively contributed to the struggle for freedom. Over time, Arachova developed a unique cultural identity, blending traditional architecture with rich customs, crafts, and festivals. Today, it is celebrated for its vibrant history, preserved heritage, and its role as a gateway to both ancient Delphi and Mount Parnassus, making it a symbol of Greek resilience and tradition.
Delphi
The archaeological site of Delphi, located on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, was one of the most important religious centers of ancient Greece. Dedicated to the god Apollo, it was believed to be the "navel of the world" (omphalos), where heaven and earth met. Delphi was home to the famous Oracle of Apollo, where the Pythia, a priestess, delivered prophecies that influenced major decisions across the Greek world. From the 8th century BCE to the 4th century CE, leaders and pilgrims came to seek guidance. The site includes the Temple of Apollo, a theater, a stadium, and treasuries built by city-states to honor the god. Delphi also hosted the Pythian Games, second in prestige only to the Olympics. Today, its ruins and breathtaking views offer a powerful connection to ancient spirituality, art, and politics, making it a must-visit symbol of classical heritage.

The trip to Delphi was excellent. We stopped at a 1,100 year old Byzantine Monastery & learned much. We then continued to Delphi & enjoyed every minute! Ilias is an excellent driver & very knowledgeable guide. After Delphi, he picked a perfect lunch spot & was happy to make recommendations of authentic Greek food. We very much enjoyed our time with him and he went out of his way to ensure we got the most of our visit!

Ilias was great—punctual, courteous, informative door to door service, stopped whenever I wanted, never rushed. Great trip!

Visiting Delphi with my family was a wonderful experience. The ancient ruins and the mountain views were truly impressive. Our driver, Ilias, made the trip special by telling us many interesting stories and facts about the place. He explained everything in a clear and friendly way, which made it easy for everyone to enjoy and understand. It was a day full of history, beauty, and great memories!

We had the best Delphi experience thanks to Ilias. We avoided the worst of the crowds and coach trips thanks to his recommended timings and were able to customise the trip. An all round fabulous experience!

Ilias was recommended by a family friend and what a great resource also filled with great pride of his country and interesting knowledge. Day 1, he picked us up from the airport, held our luggage and took us to temple Poseidon. He waited and then took us to a great lunch. Our second trip was a day to Delphi. I loved having a private tour as we could take things at our own pace and spend as much time or as little time at a location. Hopefully I will come to Athens again and use Iliad again!

It is great pleasure to write a review for Ilias Kanteres. We arrange for pick up at airport upon arrival in Greece. Iilias was prompt and was there for pick up. Drove us to our apt. We arranged for Ilias to drive us to Delfi. Again, he was on time. Spent 2 nights in Delphi. Iilias picked us up . Very trusting. We enjoyed his company. Very dependable. If we come back we will contact Iilias. Great service. Steve and Marilyn Ekdahl USA

My family had a wonderful day trip to Delphi, and our teenagers both said it was one of their favorite days. The drive was beautiful! We toured the museum and ruins, then had a lovely lunch in Arachova recommended by Ilias. Upon our return to Athens he dropped us at the base of the funicular to Lycabettus Hill where we had pre-dinner cocktails with spectacular views of the Acropolis and the city. Ilias was so pleasant and knowledgeable that we booked another trip later in our stay!
