This full-day private photography tour takes us further afield than our other tours to the wild and rugged hills and mountains east of Queenstown.
First settled a mere 160 years ago, these alien landscapes became home to thousands of fortune seekers from around the world. Shanty towns sprung up overnight, collections of shops, pubs and brothels catering to the needs of the men.
These towns were outposts in a harsh wilderness. Some, like Cromwell and Alexandra, grew to become the civic centres of today, others shrank or disappeared altogether.
We explore the back roads, cross the tor studded hills and mountains, visit the ghost towns and capture the history of this stunning and fascinating region.

Queenstown
Begin your tour with an early morning pick-up from your Queenstown, Frankton or Arrowtown hotel by private vehicle, and head straight into the hills around Queenstown to make the most of the morning light. From a high vantage point like Skippers Saddle, enjoy spectacular views of not only Queenstown, Frankton and Arrowtown, but the entire Wakatipu Basin. With the help of your guide, a professional photographer, learn how to get the best out of your camera, and master manual settings like aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Then, turn your lens towards the stunning landscapes below, and follow your guide’s advice on composition and lighting as you try your hand at landscape photography. One not so fine day in Queenstown, it was raining and gloomy since the day before; but Martin turned the weather to be photo theme of the day and it was absolutely amazing. He was punctual to begin with, and he knows hidden spot that probably even locals won't know about.
