The tour with Khoo Bee Lean was great! We learnt a lot about the origins of Penang, including the British settlement, and we also learnt a lot about the Chinese clan family system. It was also great to hear the perspective of a local on Penang’s past and current direction. It was a great way to see and contextualise Penang and we would definitely recommend to anyone visiting!

Mohammed was a really good guide - 5 stars for him. Unfortunately, the tour he was assigned to give was not what we expected or wanted. The walking tour was only the 1st half of the tour. The other half was being driven outside of Georgetown to the shops that sell only to tourists where we felt pressured to buy things - batik, white coffee, chocolate and finally... amber (that we didn't buy). It's too bad because the walking tour was interesting. We enjoyed walking out onto the jetty and seeing some of the street art.

The guide was very nice but the tour was sub-par. There was no narrative provided in the tour and very little context was shared in framing the historical spots we visited. It felt like the guide was mostly pointing out random facts at random spots in the city.

I loved the experience of seeing George Town while learning about its diverse community and remarkable history. For me having na guide made all the difference as I heard stories about place as ai was seeing them and had an opportunity to ask questions. I particularly liked seeing the mosques during Ramadan and hearing about Penang Chinese customs while in secret society locales and magnificent homes. Muhammad was a superb guide.
