Our party of 4 booked a private tour to spend three nights on top Huangshan and an extra day and night (day we descended the mountain) to visit two preserved villages from the Ming//Ching dynasties, Hongcun and Xidi Villages. We arrived on an evening flight and stayed overnight at the Crown Plaza in Tunxi. The next morning our guide and driver drove us about an hour to the bus lines at the bottom of Huangshan. The queue for the Yuping cableway was about 3 hours due to windy conditions (guide has a communication network with other tour guides) so we drove to the Yun Gu cableway bus station where there was no line. When staying overnight in Huangshan, one needs to pack all your clothes and toiletries, etc in a backpack so your hands are free when you hike. I packed everything in 2 smaller day packs and carried one on my back and the other in front. Need to be prepared to cold weather, depending on when you visit. Even though we were hiking it’s still chilly enough to wear puffy down jackets. The hotels do provide warm down jackets especially for the colder sunrise or sunset hours but am still glad I brought my own puffy. After getting off the cable car which takes you almost to the top, we started our hikes to see many interesting pine tree and rock formations that make the mountain so famous. We were extremely lucky to have pretty good weather, blue skies and the sea of clouds everyday. Our guide was the best I’ve ever experienced, she goes by the name “Suki”. She is from Huangshan and has been guiding for 13 years, has been on top the mountain more than 1000 times so she knows the mountain extremely well. It would be easy to get lost without a guide on Huangshan! Not only did she show us the many beautiful pine tree and rock formations, she provided much history of the mountain and the many sites we saw as well as some general Chinese history. She was so informative and made the tour so interesting! When we were at Bright Summit the first afternoon on our way to our hotel ( Baiyun) the fog rolled in but the sun would periodically appear. She positioned us against a railing and when the sun came out behind us, it created a Brocken Spectre (Glory), which I had learned about in a weather class, basically it’s a her shadow in a rainbow colored ring of light. She was waving her hands so we could see the movement! Suki made our experience on Huangshan unforgettable! Even with the crowds, she told us where to stand or go to watch the sunsets or sunrises. Bring at least one hiking stick, there’s a lot of upstairs and downstairs, many without railing. My brother did not bring a walking stick so Suki brought an extra one left behind by one of her previous tours. We hope to one day return and will definitely ask for her again!

My trip was planned online with a dedicated agent (Kina); the whole process was smooth and problem free. My group enjoyed a 5 day tour of Huangshan with Suki. She was one of the best guides I have ever encountered! She has a great personality, and spoke good English. She made the hike up to Huangshan, and all the visits to the villages fun, interesting and meaningful. She has a deep understanding of the history of the area and planned a trip that was a good mix of fun, food, scenery and culture. Highly recommend if anyone is planning a trip to Huangshan.

My friend and I had a wonderful time, from the moment we arrived till we reluctantly left. Our tour guide, April, was awesome. We enjoyed everything, especially the local food, we had a great meal every day. I will do the Huangshan tour again in different seasons. This was not the first time I had a tour by Travel China Guide. TCG has always been my choice. Thanks, Amy Jian, for the Huangshan arrangement.

Joe was our tour guide to our four days and three nights trip to HuangShan and Hongcun through Travel China Guide. He is very knowledgeable, informative, pleasant and helpful. His command of English is excellent !! He helped us to plan this front mountain hike up and come down from the back mountain. We took the cable car from Mercy Light Temple to Jade Screen and hike from there to Beihai Hotel. It was a difficult hike but it was well worth the effort. Because Joe knows the mountain like his back yard. We experienced the mountain, the trees, the rocks, the culture, and the history through his eyes. The weather on the mountain changed constantly. He was be able to re-arrange the hikes accordingly so we can see the best of the different peaks. The hotel, transportation and the meals are all well planned. Two nights stay was perfect for us so we can have time to explore and enjoy the mountain. Joe introduced us to the Hongcun after the mountain visit. It was such a nice visit to this treasure. He get to know the tradition, the culture and the people. Joe does not just have wealth of knowledge about HuangShan and Hongcun but he also has infinite patient when we wondered off or tired! We enjoyed his guiding. We also appreciated Joe's support and understanding. It has become the best and unforgettable part to our whole China trip!
