Spinnaker Tower
Rising dramatically above the waterfront, the Spinnaker Tower is Portsmouth’s most recognisable modern landmark. From its viewing platforms, guests can enjoy panoramic views across Portsmouth Harbour, the Solent, and the south coast - an excellent way to appreciate the city’s strategic maritime position. At ground level, the harbour area offers a more relaxed atmosphere, with waterfront walks, photo opportunities, and time to soak in the coastal setting. This stop provides a perfect contrast to the dockyard’s historical depth, rounding out the day with scenery, fresh air, and visual impact.
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is one of Britain’s most important maritime heritage sites, offering a powerful insight into the nation’s naval legacy. Visitors can explore HMS Victory, the legendary flagship of Admiral Lord Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar, and step inside the Mary Rose Museum, home to Henry VIII’s restored Tudor warship and its remarkable artefacts. The dockyard also hosts the National Museum of the Royal Navy, where interactive exhibitions and immersive storytelling bring centuries of naval history to life. This experience is ideal for guests who appreciate depth, heritage, and historically significant landmarks, with enough time to explore at a comfortable, unhurried pace.

We were picked up at our hotel promptly at the designated time by our guide,James. He was polite and delightful. He drove us from London to Portsmouth. He was familiar with the town and took us to Spinnaker Tower, Mary Rose,HMS Victory and the D-Day museum. Visiting the two ships was a life long dream as I’m a bit of an English naval history buff. The tours did not disappoint. Price of admission did however. $130 for a years membership. It took me 70 years to get here, I don't see myself coming back in a within year to take advantage of my membership again.

Portsmouth is acquaint and historic naval town. The Victory is under reconstruction and is hard to grasp as a whole. The Mary Rose is a fragment of a ship but allows a great comparison of the changes in naval technology over 250 years. What made the day great was James our tour guide. He was knowledgeable, very intelligent and the best tour guide imaginable. He went out of his way to make the day memorable m.
