Ama’s Surf School Weligama Sri Lanka was originally founded to help all those surfers who felt they had plateaued or were struggling to progress. The enthusiast who loves being in the ocean but can’t work out how to take their surfing to the next level. While for some riding broken waves in the white water suits them, for most this is just the start of a longer surfing journey fuelled by the dream of gliding along the open face of waves trimming and turning in harmony with the ocean.

What To Expect

Whether you take a lesson or one of our Surf Courses, these are the things you can expect to work on: How to paddle out beyond the breaking waves Positioning and wave selection How to understand the priority system and surf etiquette for catching waves How to catch and take-off on unbroken waves How to ride left or right on the open wave face Wave positioning, turn profiles and carrying speed and flow through manoeuvres How to position and be confident paddling into and taking-off on bigger waves. Take your surfing to the next level on our intermediate wave. A whitewater take-off turns into a green wave as it travels down the lagoon.

This is the third holiday we have had in Weligama and Sammy has been my kids surfing coach on every occasion. He is a brilliant teacher and we trust him completely with their safety. The kids now love surfing and hence we will keep coming back.

My husband and I had an awesome experience at Ama's surf school. Our instructor Rohan was great, and we both went from beginner to intermediate level in less than a week. I was really excited to learn how to catch green waves and turn left and right! Weligama is beautiful and one sunset session we surfed under a giant rainbow. Totally spectacular. Ama and his team were friendly, professional and fun. They were also really good with our young baby and accommodating to our schedule. Highly recommend for beginners and intermediate surfers too!
