From January to June, it is a crucial time in all the floating villages of Siem Reap, as the water levels start to drop and offer tourists to experience a new perspective. Although the picturesque landscape of the floating community may lose some of its charm during this time, visitors still have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the daily lives of villagers living during the dry season. The dry season in floating villages may not be the ideal time to take perfect photos, but it provides an opportunity to witness a side of daily village life that is not usually seen. The waterway is very narrow due to the receding waters and becomes a channel that crosses the previously submerged lake bed. Because it is narrow, the boat moves much more slowly.

What To Expect

Skun Spider Sanctuary

There is the option to take a break in Skuon, affectionately known as Spiderville Cambodia, the popular place for Cambodian and foreign travelers where it is possible to taste the local delicacy of tarantula fried and other fried insects. We make a short stop to amaze you around this market in Spider Town, you can also try various seasonal local fruits from the region and islands in the Mekong River. However, if you don’t want to taste spider, cricket, scorpion, grasshopper or other insects, this is also a good place to take pictures.

Kampong Kdei

This was an ancient Angkor route and we stop at Kampong Kdei to see one of the ancient Angkor bridges built in the 12th century. Spean Praptos or local resident called Dragon Bridge, it has over 20 arches and is a spectacular sight, reinforcing the impression that the Khmers were like the Romans of Southeast Asia. The bridge is in good condition and looks impressive.

Much better than the hassle of the airport between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap Air conditioned scenic taxi journey with Sopheap. He was a great driver and stopped us off at several attractions, the boat trip on Tonle Sap Lake a particular highlight 👌

The trip between Phnom Penh was very relaxing. Tony the driver was knowledgeable and spoke excellent English and was a steady safe driver, aware of what was going on around him so no heavy footed breaking, so I even enjoyed a deep sleep for a couple of hours. The icing on the cake was the visit to the Tonle Sap Lake and boat ride through the Kampong Pluk / Floating Houses and sampling freshly smoked mok fish. Highly recommend Tony and booking a private taxi to get between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

Brilliant tour / taxi trip with Vichet - went to many interesting places en route and spoke very good English. Nothing was too much trouble and we saw everything we had planned notwithstanding the traffic and delay caused by Khmer New Year celebrations. Cannot recommend highly enough. Thanks Vichet.

Our driver was on time and very friendly , took us to see and experience lots of interesting things on our trip , eat some fried crickets, and tarantula , even held an alive tarantula , walked over the ancient bridge , had a lunch at a floating cafe and visited the floating village

A great way to see parts of Cambodia that would otherwise be missed if flying between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. We particularly enjoyed visiting the floating village and the boat trip out to Tonle Sap lake. Vichet was both an incredibly kind and friendly guide, and a safe driver. Would thoroughly recommend.

It couldn’t get any better than this!! Sok was the best driver possible, funny, knowledgeable and thoughtful at all times. He offered us traditional pastries along the way and made our discovery interesting and engaging all the time! He made us visiting a wonderful and true floating village, far from the touristic circuit. Moreover the Sambor prey kuk complex is a true gem we could have never found without him. We are happy and grateful for the wonderful way which allowed us to move from one city to another with all the best in between the two, without wasting a day just for the transfert. Thank you again
