What To Expect
Matera
First of all, we are going to Matera from your accommodation to explore the city's rich history and stunning landscapes. Here, I'll share stories about the city's evolution and its transformation from a symbol of poverty to a UNESCO World Heritage site. We'll start in the ancient Sassi districts, where I'll lead you through the labyrinth of cave dwellings and alleys. You'll learn about how these caves were once homes, churches, and even monasteries, providing a glimpse into how people lived here for thousands of years. To better understand life in the Sassi, we’ll tour a "Casa Grotta," a restored cave home furnished as it would have been centuries ago. In the end, I'll give you some free time. After it, we'll head to Alberobello.
Alberobello
Once we arrive in Alberobello, we begin our tour by visiting this fabulous town, known for its iconic Trulli houses. We'll explore two amazing districts called Aia Piccola and Rione Monti. The first one is a quieter area with fewer tourists, where some Trulli are still used as private homes. The second one is considered to be more touristy, and yet, it has a very picturesque and decorated streets lined with hundred of Trulli - the town's signature whitewashed, conical-roofed dwellings. We'll visit one of the trullo house in order to understand better the construction of it and how people could live in. Also, we'll visit the unique church, dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, built in trullo style, which blends seamlessly with the surrounding architecture. In the end, I'll give some free time so you can enjoy it on your own, after which we return to your accomodation.

Yurii was exceptional from start to finish, offering both seamless transportation and thoughtful, knowledgeable guidance throughout the day. We began in Alberobello, where Yurii guided us through the trulli districts, sharing insight into their unique construction and history while also giving us time to explore independently, take photos, and truly enjoy the atmosphere. From there, we continued on to Matera, where Yurii provided excellent historical context as we explored the Sassi. He allowed us to move at a relaxed, unhurried pace, encouraging us to take our time and fully absorb the beauty and history of this extraordinary city. His explanations added depth and meaning to what we were seeing. One of the things we appreciated most was the flexibility of the day. Yurii even accommodated a lunch stop, making the experience feel personalized rather than rigid or rushed. This tour struck a wonderful balance between expert guidance and freedom, with the comfort of a private driver throughout. 5.00Travel through the countryside to 2 important historical sites. The Trulli were interesting and Matera was magical. Our guide Graziano was very knowledgeable and gave us insight all along our ride. I wish we had more time in Matera as there was so much history and so much to see. It was wonderful to be there late day and after sundown.

He is very knowledgeable about both sites and tailored our visits to what we were interested in seeing and where we wanted to spend most of our time. 5.00We highly recommend our guide, Yurii. He was professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. He has a passion for history and art. His English is very good, also. He was patient to answer our questions and requests. It was a private tour so we were picked up at our hotel near Bari and we got all the attention and help we needed. We requested to start the tour an hour earlier and the communication was easy and prompt. (We also recommend bringing a cooling towel on the hot months as there is water available around town to soak the towel and it helps to cool off.)
