Alberto was the best guide. He was so knowledgeable, friendly, and responsive. The tour was all about what we wanted to do in terms of hiking. We opted for an hour hike plus a visit to the caves. The lunch and wine tasting were excellent and couldn’t have been in a more scenic location.

What a great way to see Etna and a small family winery. Our guide was very knowledgable and knew the entire area so well. The roads are very tight and he drove well and knew how to get from place to place showing us the sites. The food at the winery was as good as the wine, the winemakers wife made it all. Amazing hike into Etna as well!

This was an incredibly fun day. It started with our guide picking us up at our hotel. We went up into the beautiful mountain region and had coffee. We sampled honey, and then drove to some scenic places where we could view Mt. Etna. Our guide Messimo, is well versed in volcanology and knows a great deal about geology as well and taught us a great deal about Etna, past eruptions and their effect, and also about the local, regional, and national culture of Sicily. We went on a wonderful hike to explore the volcanic area on Etna and even went into a cave caused by lava flow. The wine tasting experience at a small winery, Vinilizzio, owned and operated by two brothers, offered four tastings, and a lovely three-course meal with a spectacular meal. The entire experience made for a delightful and enjoyable adventure.

Our guide was kind and extremely knowledgeable about volcanos. You can definitely tell he has studied the field. However, I will say it was a slow day and seemed drawn out. We probably could have skipped the first volcano stop and enjoyed it just as much. The drive to the winery was particularly long, especially as we were all starving after hours of volcano walking and driving. The vineyards were some of the most beautiful I’ve seen, but the food was not ready for us and when they brought it out it was cold and frankly not very appetizing. The vineyard operators were not friendly and were not equipped to do anything other than the standard tour/food/wine service. Our kids were miserable, couldn’t eat anything, and just played outside. Normally wineries offer delicious hot flatbreads, pizza, etc. For the extremely long drive and wait it was a pretty big disappointment. The wines were OK.
