The Vienna Museum of Art History's collection is the best place to see and to understand what distinguishes a brilliant artist from the wonderful and the good from the mediocre. If you want not only to walk through the museum and enjoy the works of Rembrandt, Rubens, Vermeer, Raphael and Caravaggio, but also aspire to understand what distinguishes their works from those of their less famous contemporaries, this tour is for you.
In Peter Bruegel's largest world collection, we'll take a closer look at The Hunters in the Snow to understand why it was in the 20th century that this painting became the “cold distant peak of unattainable art“, and why it was a huge risk to choose such a controversial subject in the 16th century.
We will look at the requirements for Rubens' work and see the difference between works made for his powerful commissioners and those created for his own pleasure. The Capture of Samson by his disciple Antonis van Dyck will make it clear to us which qualities of his work have allowed him to occupy a separate place in the history of art, at least equal to his teachers.
Vermeer's work The Allegory of The Art and Caravaggio's Madonna with the Beads will show us the most virtuoso showcase of mimesis, the main principle of Western aesthetics. And Parmigianino's works in the contrary will show us the first attempts of art to escape from the path of perfect vitality.
If you wish to see outstanding art and aspire to understand what makes it great, this art tour is perfect for you.

Julia is knowledgeable and a wonderful guide through the Kunsthistorisches Museum. I learned so much from her and had a terrific time doing it. She had been my guide on my tour of the Leopold. I was delighted when she turned up for this tour so that we would continue our discussion of art together.

Julie is knowledgeable, leading us into great discussions. Although we had been to the Kunsthistoriche Museum a number of times, we had fun learning more, approaching things differently, and concentrating on the newest trends in evaluating the art. What an exhilarating morning, thank you.

This is one of Vienna's most famous art gallery. It houses tens of thousands of world-famous paintings, sculptures and other artefacts. Go and enjoy yourself thoroughly! And take at least half a day's time for it!

We had a wonderful experience! Our guide, Julia is extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, charismatic! It was not a lecturing about an art. Julia engaged us into the art discussion, brainstormed our background knowledge, that made our experience unforgettable.

This is a great tour. I highly recommend it. I like taking guided tours because I always learn something new. But I didn't realise that you could learn so many fascinating and unexpected things on a guided tour of a picture gallery while looking at masterpieces by Rubens and Raphael, about things like the impact of GDP or climate change on what we see in the paintings of the old masters, stories of theft and forgery and the list goes on and on. This was an awesome tour. I have taken many tours around the world and I can tell you that this tour is an A++. Take it.
