What To Expect
Venetian Tower of Durres
Through old maps, photographs, and locations, You will get to know the urban neighborhood as a result of various cultures, nations, and religions. You will discover the 2nd-century amphitheater, Byzantine, Norman, Venetian, and Ottoman fortifications, as well as the urban planning and architecture of the industrial city era. Furthermore, We will explore the contemporary urban transition of today.
Venetian Tower of Durres
During our tour, we will delve into the history of the construction of the Venetian Tower in Durrës, its building techniques, and its resemblance to other towers along the Adriatic Sea and beyond. We will also explore its historical significance during the Ottoman rule, up to its demilitarization during the early stages of World War II. We'll discuss its utilization throughout the communist regime and up to the last 30 years. Additionally, visitors will be introduced to the recent renovation works financed by the European Commission, transforming this Tower into a multimedia center projecting the city's history. Please note, to access the projection and the elevated balcony, visitors must pay an additional fee, not included in this tour, but entrance to view the interior is included.

5.00We had a lovely tour with our guide artan. He shared many interesting facts and about the city regarding its history, religion, architecture and much more. We also were given the opportunity to stay longer at places we thought were more interesting! Artan answered all of our questions during the tour and was super nice! Would recommend this tour for smaller groups!

5.00During our visit to Durres we were lucky enough to take a tour with local guide Artan, and it was really an extraordinary experience. From the first moment he was very professional, friendly and above all extremely knowledgeable about the history and culture of the city. Artan didn’t just show us the main places, but told us many interesting facts and details that we would never have discovered on our own. You can clearly see that he loves his job and his city, and he manages to convey this passion to those who participate in the tour. The tour was perfectly organized, with great attention to detail and timing, without ever making us feel in a hurry. He was also very helpful in answering all our questions and giving us useful tips on what to see and where to eat in Durres. Thanks to Artan we discovered the city in an authentic and engaging way. If you are visiting Durres, I would definitely recommend taking a tour with him. It was one of the best experiences of our trip!

5.00Artan was absolutely brilliant!! The tour isn't just a story learnt from hisory books and regurgitated for tourists. Artan himself is deeply connected with Durres, both with its history and its present, and brings his personal and familial insight into his tour. It's fantastic to hear the story of Durres from someone so personally interwoven with the history you are learning about! Artan clearly also has an architectural and art background, and his discussion of the different architectural, historic, and international influences on the city was passionate with an academic's love of knowing as much about it as possible, and explaining it in a way those with less knowledge will enjoy. We were blown away by how much knowledge Artan had, how personal and intimate his knowledge of the history was, and his ability to give us a gregarious and enthusiastic tour despite, I'm sure, having given the same tour 1000 times before! His tour is both very practised and perfect, and simultaneously enthusiastic as if it was his first time sharing his knowledge with others. At one point, we also diverged from the tour to ask some questions about how Durres is now, culturally and politically. Artan took this in his stride and was as enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and passionate on that sublect as he was on the history. He took the time to answer our questions thoroughly, which we really appreciated! Artan appears to have many interests, and for that we were glad, as he brought his passion for them all together into this tour. We left it smiling, with much to chat about and reflect on, feeling 1000 times more informed about what we were seeing in Durres, and much more able to appreciate our travel experience here! We recommend this tour 100%!
