Want a glowing and unforgettable night? This Bio-Bay Kayak Tour is what you need!
On this tour, you will cross a canal inside the nature reserve that is surrounded by various types of mangroves. This protects from strong winds and helps you to paddle easily in peaceful waters.
The best part of this tour is to enjoy the incredible glittering water of the "Big Lagoon"! Tiny bioluminescent organisms called "pyrodiniums bahamenses" are the responsible for this wonder of nature. They produce blue-green light from top to bottom of this bay every time you touch or move the water with your kayak!

Our kayaking tour with Yokahu was amazing! The guides were so fun and always making sure everyone felt safe and comfortable. It was the highlight of our trip and we’d recommend it to anyone wanting to see the bioluminescence!

Really enjoyed this tour - especially the kayaking through the mangroves at sunset.

We had a family of 5 so one of us had to do the double kayak with a stranger; even though they had an extra single person kayak on the trailer. Kayaking through the mangroves was cool, but when we got to the lagoon we spent the entire time tied together as one huge tour group vs. getting to float around with our family and experience the bioluminescence. They also put a large tarp over the group to see it better, which added nothing to the experience besides making it hot and awkward. They also brought out some live crabs and spent more time talking about crabs and fielding ridiculous questions from people than we spent talking about the Bioluminescence or getting to experience it. For the time and cost, I would not recommend this.

So we ended up on the 6:30pm tour and were glad we did that versus the later one. I had the most fun kayaking through the mangroves at dusk- it was like you were on a Pirates of the Caribbean ride- so fun! The downsides is that the bioluminescence wasn’t really that great. I guess the hurricane they had in 2017 wiped it out. So the pictures you see online are not true to life, though some days are better than others. They have you pull a tarp over your head and splash the water to see it before it gets all the way dark. The other downsides is there are lots of tour groups doing this at the same time in the same area so it’s a little peopley, and takes longer just for waiting times of getting in and out of the mangroves. I’d do this again, but just set my expectations a little more realistic, though it’s fun to say we did it.

Wear a swimsuit, as your lower half will become soaked. Wear bug repellant on any exposed skin. Book on a new moonshine night.

Great experience and awesome guides! So cool to do this at night!!! You will get wet, leave your shoes at the kiosk, and bring some toilet paper for the public restroom nearby. If booking a ride share, it’s remote and difficult to get one back so I highly recommend reserving a round trip.

A truly magical experience! It was wonderful to kayak through the mangroves and explore the bioluminescent bay with knowledgeable staff. We did the 6:30 PM tour, which I think was ideal because we were able to see the mangrove trees in daylight, catch the sunset, and return after dark.
