We did the Hydro Attack in Queenstown and overall it was a unique and high-energy experience. The speed, sharp turns and underwater dive moments look impressive, and the crew handle the boat with confidence, which makes the ride feel safe and well controlled. One thing worth noting is that you’re not allowed to use your own GoPro. All footage is recorded using their onboard cameras instead. After the ride, you’re shown the video, and if you’d like to keep it, there is an additional NZD 30 charge. This only became clear after the ride. Interestingly, when watching the video afterwards, the experience actually looks more exciting than it felt in the moment. The footage is enjoyable to watch, but the real-life ride didn’t quite feel as dramatic as it appears on camera. Overall, it’s still a memorable and fast-paced activity, particularly for those who haven’t done a jet-boat-style experience before.

It was so fun! It’s better to go on cooler days and when the water is calmer so that you can really experience the twists and turns of the adventure. I’d highly recommend it!

This was a lot of fun. Thoroughly enjoyed the roller coaster like experience on and below the water. It’s not for the faint hearted or for people who suffer from claustrophobia. The cockpit is quite cramped and as a 6-foot-tall person not the easiest to get into. The tour operator’s website states 6’ 4” is the maximum height for passengers. However, on checking the manufactures website, it stated 6’ 4” for the pilot and 6’ 2” for the passenger. Be aware of these height limitations when booking. It is impressive to travel side-on through the water and the tail stand is great. Thoroughly recommend this tour.

Very friendly and capable staff. The ride was a little more jarring and uncomfortable than I expected, like being on a roller coaster.

We tried the Hydro Attack experience and found it underwhelming for the price. While the concept sounds exciting, it felt more like a calm cruise than an adrenaline rush, with only about 10–15 minutes of actual time driving through the water. Visibility is limited since the driver’s large front seat blocks most of the forward view. Conditions were a bit choppy, though the driver did their best to make the ride comfortable. Staff interactions were mixed. We arrived five minutes before the time listed on our ticket, unaware that we were expected to arrive 15 minutes earlier as this was not stated on the ticket or on the third-party booking site (Agoda), which led to a shortened experience. Overall, it was okay, but definitely overpriced and not something I’d recommend if you’re looking for a true adrenaline experience.

Good experience. However, not worth the hype. The shark was too short for people with long legs. One time visit at the best.

The submerge was probably the best part but unfortunately the ride was really rough, and when going sideways the cockpit started leaking.

What an absolute blast! The hydro attack was seriously exhilarating, a total rush from start to finish. Mark, our pilot, was incredible, maneuvering the vessel with such skill and confidence. And skipper Peter was super friendly and made sure everyone was having a fantastic time. Definitely a must-do if you're looking for some serious fun on the water in Queenstown!

The ride was good fun, the staff very friendly and helpful and we were made to feel very safe. I was in Queenstown 5 years ago and didn’t go on the hydroshark and so was the only thing I wanted to do this time. Definitely recommend booking in advance so you don’t miss out and would 100% recommend this experience.
