There is no better place in the world to learn to dive than the Great Barrier Reef! This 4 Day Learn To Dive course combines two days theory and pool practice at Quicksilver Dive’s 5 Star PADI training centre with the excitement of two Great Barrier Reef day trips to complete your training dives (4 mandatory) and the option of two guided fun dives as a certified diver! Open water training dives are conducted from a modern custom-designed dive catamaran at a selection of over 35 exclusive World Heritage dive sites at the renowned Agincourt ribbon reefs. Small class sizes ensure a personalised, safe, professional and most importantly fun, learning experience!

Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness

Ability to swim - 200m (or 300m with mask, fins and snorkel) and tread water (float) for 10 minutes.

Course commences every Tuesday and on request

If a dive medical is required, it must be completed within 90 days of starting your dive course.

It is recommended that you not fly for 24 hours after diving. The final scheduled Open Water dive will be completed by 2:30pm.

Minimum age 10 years.

Some medical conditions such as asthma, heart conditions or diabetes may prevent you from diving. Prior to commencing your dive course you are required to complete the self-assessment Student Diver Medical Declaration. A positive response to any questions indicates there is a pre-existing condition which may affect your safety while diving and you will need to obtain a dive medical certificate that states you are medically fit to dive.

For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.

What To Expect

Day 1 and 2 is spent at the Quicksilver Dive Training Centre, Warner Street Port Douglas Day 3 and 4 are Day Trips to the Agincourt ribbon reefs to become a certified diver.

We had a great time! The staff was incredible, especially our dive master Gordon. The staff in general was super welcoming and accommodating to all our needs. We will 100% book another trip with them and would recommend it to everyone, diving or snorkeling.

It was an experience of a life time and Port Douglas Quicksilver Team delivered above and beyond! My 16 year old son and I completed our Open Water Diving Licence with Adam who was amazing; friendly, congenial and personable outside of the water and when our lessons began he transformed into an informative, knowledgeable and supportive instructor. With the rest of the Team; Chris, India, Jade and the crew onboard Silversonic, it was honestly one of the best travel experiences of my life.

Adam, Indie, Chris & Jade were sensational! My 14yr daughter & 16yr old son did their open water with this crew & I couldn’t believe the excellent treatment they received from the entire team. These guys really are the best in the business! Safety was paramount with the entire team & their communication was amazing. Thanks guys you’re absolutely awesome!

Well, it was just amazing. We booked this course months ago as a new skill to learn together, both in our mid-fifties. Some trepidation as the start of the course dawned. Needn’t have worried, we had a fantastic experience, could not fault it, in fact it exceeded our expectations. Day 1 in the classroom with delightful dive master Adam and then day2-4 with our dive instructor Hayley. It was brilliant to spend day 2 in the 4m deep swimming pool. We did our swim test and Hayley taught us the key skills to keep us safe. The skills set us up for Day 3 & 4 on the reef where we re-did the skills. Hayley was so knowledgeable and adept at teaching, explaining the key concepts and patient when needed. But most importantly, she was fun to be with but kept a level of necessary professionalism. Would wholeheartedly recommend Quicksilver, they were quick to communicate with us and sorted out the PADI certification promptly on completion of the course.

Participated in Quicksilver’s PADI Open Water diver certification course. It is an intense 3 day hands-on (after elearning). The office were very supportive during registration , form filling and medical. Great indoor facility for training in the 4m depth diving pool. We were in a group of 6 participants with 1 instructor. Our instructor, Adam was knowledgable, patient and generous and all 6 achieved certification by the end of the course and we got to see the beautiful Great Barrier Reef while learning the skills.

We completed our PADI Open Water course (3 days + e-learning) Fantastic experience from Quicksilver Dive, from the very first booking enquiry, being guided through the medical requirements to the welcome and tuition we received on the day. The entire team were friendly and welcoming and couldn’t do enough to help. Special thanks to our instructors Emma and Adam who were clearly very experienced and yet still managed to make the experience personal. They must see so many new divers yet they were still so enthusiastic about our progress and patient when things took a while to master. We felt really safe with them and developed the skills and confidence we needed to stay safe in the water. 100% recommend.

I did the 3 day elearning open water training. My dive instructor, Haylie made me feel comfortable and calm in the water. She is an awesome teacher! I loved how gradual the course was. It made me feel prepared and ready to dive. We only had 3 students in the class including myself which made it easy to ask questions and get lots of diving in! Overall, I had an amazing experience with Quiksilver. If you are on the fence about getting PADI certified, do it, you won't regret it.

I just finished my open water diving course. It was such a great experience. Our instructor Emma was literally amazing!! She always made sure everyone was feeling confident and safe during our dives. She taught us all the skills you’ll need to explore the beautiful underwater world. And even if someone got seasick she always made sure we had everything we need to feel better. Her college Chris was always happy to help or answer any of our questions. I would highly recommend getting certified in Port Douglas with Emma and Chris!

I rushed in to get some gear when I first arrived in Port & met the cool as a cucumber Chris. He helped ensure I got what I needed & bounced out with my quality fins & the important socks for my snorkel adventures. I also booked & did a beginners recreational dive with Daan a few weeks ago & it was fantastic! Daan was professional & informative & ensured we were all okay before taking us newbies down to the beautiful enchanted world that is the Great Barrier Reef! Daan was amazing to hold hands with & really kept me calm, I knew I was in good hands! The vibrance he exuded & encouraging words helped me go on & complete a certified open water dive certificate! Simone at the desk helped me navigate the online course work & on the first day I met my beautiful instructor Emma! She was thorough & made sure I was feeling good during all our skills check. Any trepidations I had, Emma took the time to explain & we practiced! Emma let me trial a few dive masks during the day as I was looking for a better mask. We settled on one that I am so happy with! By day 2 in the open water, I felt more at eased bc Emma had me so prepared in the pool & we re did all the skills required but I did it with more confidence so we smashed through all the skills check. Day 3 I felt like everything was natural (setting up from scratch, the checks & dive plan) & I was certified!! We celebrated with 2 fun dives as a certified diver! With the GoPro on hand we got to enjoy the beauty & know that I got certified in the world’s biggest beauty that mother nature created, the Great Barrier Reef!! I cannot wait to head out on more dive adventures & see Emma & Daan & wave to them!! My biggest thanks goes to Emma! I couldn’t ask for a better instructor! Emma really made it feel easy & was so thorough that I know I had the best training & preparation for my PADI certificate!
