Ramayana Ballet performance at Purawisata is divided into several acts. The entire Ramayana story is presented through body movements or dancing, without any dialogues. The melodious strains of Java Gending softly sounded to the beautiful dancers gracefully dancing.
Occasionally heard, the Sinden is humming songs in Javanese. When the scene changed into Rahwana or Hanoman and the monkey army appearances, the sound is turned into the more lively Gending. The stage becomes more crowded when the war begins and the show becomes more compelling at Anoman Obong’s scene. Having enjoyed the show, you can take pictures with all the players on the stag

The experience was great. YOUR COMMUNICATION WITH ME WAS HORRIBLE. You didn’t tell us when or where to arrive for dinner and your performance times were WRONG! So so disappointed.

We bought the dual package which included a pre-show buffet dinner before the performance. Food was very good. The theater was just a short walk away. If you know the storyline before watching the show, that would definitely help. Just beware that it’s an open amphitheater with bench seating, no seat backs). So if you sat in any rows except the last row, you will have no back support for over an hour. The last row has a concrete wall to lean back on. Trade off is being comfortable versus better view of the performance. There was a bit of pyrotechnics toward the culmination. Applying mosquito repellant and have a fan on hand would vastly improve your comfort as well.

It didn't list the start time of the dinner and the start time of the show, so it turned out after I arrived on the day. I think we should notify them because it's necessary information.

Very interesting dance and story. Highly recommend knowing some of the story before going so you can follow the plot better. The theater is covered but has open sides to keep it relatively cool. You can do dinner and a show or just the show. Enjoy!

The Ramayana Ballet Performance was absolutely stunning! The dancers were incredibly talented, and the way they brought the ancient story to life was truly beautiful. The choreography, costumes, and music were all captivating – a great cultural experience that we really enjoyed. However, the food was quite disappointing. It had been altered to suit Western tastes, and the open buffet didn’t meet our expectations. We were hoping for more authentic local flavors, but instead, the food felt bland and out of place.

The food and the performance were excellent. The play has a complicated plot, but still enjoyable even if difficult to follow. Music can seem monotonous at times. Flames and firecrackers add to the enjoyment. One can pose with some of the cast at the conclusion for photos.

The dancing was lovely and the costumes amazing. You can collect the tickets from the hotel in the day if the theatre is shut. This is NOT the ballet at the Prambanyan temple. It is in Yogyakarta. It gives you a cushion!

The Ramayana Ballet in Yogyakarta is an Indonesian cultural performance of telling a story through dance and music. The dance performers are dressed in colorful Indonesian costumes and they give an excellent performance. Prior to the dance performance, a nice buffet dinner is served under covered patio areas that are located just outside the entrance to dance theater and are large enough to serve tour groups. The show theater is actually an open amphitheatre, but does have a large rooftop that covers the seating areas just in case it rains. There is no air conditioning at the amphitheatre, but when we were here in the month of April and during the evening hours, the ambient outdoor temperatures were quite comfortable. In summary, the over-all experience of coming here for the delicious buffet and nice show performance was excellent.
