Trek along the edge of Rano Kau, one of the three extinct volcanoes of Rapa Nui.
Moisture accumulates inside, creating a favorable microclimate for cultivation. There is a great diversity of native vegetation that surprises: bananas, tubers, and other edible species that make us think of ancient human occupations.
It is considered that the manavai, an ancient system of cultivation of circular holes, protected by a stone wall, was inspired by the craters of volcanoes such as Rano Kau.
When you reach the end of the route, you will find one of the most impressive settings on the island, the great crater of Rano Kau next to the 3 main islets of Rapa Nui.

What To Expect
Walk along the edge of Rano Kau, one of Rapa Nui's three extinct volcanoes. Its crater of more than a kilometer and a half in diameter allows us to look out and see its interior. There, a large lagoon with reed islands forms a landscape that seems to be located in another part of the cosmos.

5.00Wow wow wow. When it said hike around the crater, I expected staying in the restricted areas. With a guide you were able to go deeper and we walked almost around the entire crater. It was magical to see from different angles and elevations. The hike is meant for a more experienced hiker as the terrain is up and down. The guide Tata was knowledgeable and friendly.
