• Get away from the Ocho Rio tourists to the Rio Grande

  The drive from Ocho Rios to Port Antonio was a bit long, although beautiful, however, we found the bamboo raft trip down the Rio Grande to be worth the trip. The scenery was gorgeous and on a cloudy day, we did not get too hot. We enjoyed the lunch stop -- the only place we really saw other people. It was nice to get away from the crowds at the sights immediately around Ocho Rios. We went without a reservation. After a slight delay due to google maps sending us on a short cut with a missing bridge (stay on the main road) and some confusion about where to go in Port Antonio -- the first sign for rafting was at the take out point and the guides there tried to get us to do a shorter up and back trip from there-- we drove to Berrydale and found a guide waiting named Josh who competently took us down the river and arranged for a taxi back to our car. The road to Berrydale is a bit tricky due to some significant pot holes so be prepared for it to take longer than you might think from the distance.

  Very nice trip. The driver was very punctual and accommodating. Captain Mark was likeable and told interesting stories. The river was beautiful and as it was slowseason we had the whole river for ourselves. Eating at Belindas shack in about the middle of the experience is highly recommended

  Port Antonia a a beautiful area of Jamaica, and not overrun by tourists. Winifred Beach, rafting on the Rio Grande, and the waterfalls up in the mountains are our favorite things to do. We stay at Goblin Hills Villas overlooking San San Beach when we come. It is a beautiful small resort outside of Port Antonio, incredibly landscaped and very reasonably priced. You may choose to engage a personal cook when you stay. I strongly recommend Taneise. She is an amazing cook, and a very pleasant wonderful person. She took us shopping in Port Antonio, which was a delightful adventure in its own right, and cooked all week for us. She also handles cleaning. We absolutely loved her. If you'd like to have Tanice as your personal chef, you can reach her on WhatsApp at 1 (876) 351-5592. Please note that cooks, like most service workers in Jamaica, depend on tips. Service jobs in Jamaica are often paid little to nothing--they just provide an opportunity to earn tips. Please be generous.

  This was all a positive experience- booking was smooth, driver was friendly, connection with the raft captain went well. Captain Pablo was outgoing, helpful, and full of information. The lunch stop included time for a swim, and it was great. Bring sunscreen, suit and towel Belinda’s red snapper lunch was fresh and delicious. So glad we tried it! About $2500 Jamaican. Driver was waiting at the end of the trip. Gorgeous weather, secluded and quiet route. Birds were the only visible animal. So glad we did this adventure.

  The driver was 15 earlier than stated. Transfer was great, everything went smoothly. Excursion very nice as Errol Flynn described, can only be recommended. I would definitely book again in the future. I liked it very much

• Natural beauty on the Rio Grande

  Michael our expert rafter took us along the Rio and having decades of experience, thrilled us with navigating his raft through rapids and calm waters gliding for 2 ½ hours sharing stories of all the famous people he has hosted over the years. Sean Connery, Beyoncé, Daniel Craig, the list goes on. We stopped for a cold red stripe at the big rock bar, enjoyed several swims along the way, the nature, the beauty and the history of rafting which started with delivering bananas to town and Errol Flynn came and suggested to add a seat to the raft and people would pay for that experience. Tourism flourished from there. A completely unique experience, bring sun coverage and a bathing suit. A truly great time!!
