A historic neighbourhood which was once known for its orange groves and stately country homes, it was also the home of Machado de Assis, one of Brazil's most important literary figures.
At this historic point we meet the Carioca River-the main source of water for the city in its early days, after which the people of Rio call themselves 'Cariocas'.

This was hands down one of the highlights of our entire trip to Rio. Michael took us on an incredible mountain bike ride through Tijuca Forest, the world’s largest urban rainforest, and the experience was magical from start to finish. The ride itself is a real workout, with a challenging climb that pushes you, but the reward is absolutely worth it. We were treated to truly unique panoramic views of Rio that you simply cannot get anywhere else. The descent back down was pure joy and an adrenaline rush we will not forget. What truly made this experience special was Michael himself. He is warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about Rio. Throughout the ride, he taught us so much about the fascinating history of the city and the forest, and he let us set our own pace so we never felt rushed. The bikes were top quality and well maintained, which made a real difference on the trails. If you want to see a side of Rio that goes beyond the typical tourist circuit, this is the experience to book. Adventure, unique views, history, and a fantastic guide all rolled into one unforgettable ride. Thank you, Michael!

We had an absolutely amazing time with Michael. We met him in the forest at the visitor center, and we had an amazing 4-hour cycle through the national park. In the forest we went past waterfalls, saw the monkeys, amazing views. It was an absolutely amazing and once-in-a-lifetime experience. We are so grateful that we managed to do this, and thank you so much to Michael. He's an absolutely great host, very trustworthy, very safe, and very responsive on WhatsApp. I would not hesitate to recommend anybody who's in Brazil for a holiday and wants to make the most of their time there. Literally, just drop Michael a message. You won't regret it. Thanks so much, Michael. Looking forward to the next time.

Had an amazing time with Michael cycling through the Tijuca Forest, full recommendation. We forgot our binoculars but Michael had some so we could spot birds and monkeys on the way. He also gave valuable tips for hiking up to Christo Redentor (take the Carioca Trail, not the beaten path from Lage Park) and other spots around the Tijuca. Bikes+helmets were included and in good shape. My watch said 30km with almost 700m elevation so its quite a bit of climbing but fully worth it.

We had a great time riding through Tijuca Forest with Michael as our guide. I frequently do bike rides or tours when visiting cities and this was a standout experience from our trip. Michael guided us on a fantastic ride, gave some history of Rio, and provided information on Rio's culture as well as recommendations on what to do in the city. It was a beautiful ride and Michael accommodated the varying level of biking experience from our group. Also, he has by far the best bikes I've used on a guided bike ride/tour.

Fantastic tour!! Michael was a great guide who led us up the mountains - which was a bit of a welcome workout on the legs - and showed us some amazing views. Would definitely recommend!! 3.5 hrs was perfect too and great value for money.

This was exactly the experience that I was looking for while visiting Rio. Michael was a kind, knowledgeable and helpful guide. He took us through the neighborhood Cosme Velho and up into the Tijuca rainforest, giving us a different perspective of the area that is clearly underappreciated by tourists. He was very helpful and gracious with the other two people in the group, who had less experience writing. He was very communicative with me, as I wrote ahead more independently. And the equipment was in great condition, which is always something that I pay close attention to. Who is the ride NOT for? People in poor physical condition and/or those who do not do at least semi-regular exercise. People who don’t enjoy being outdoors. Most of this ride is climbing uphill, time-wise. So, it is important that you know yourself and read the description of the tour before making a decision on Purchasing this experience. However, it is something I 100% would recommend to my friends to share the same interest that I do.
