We offer a practical, fun approach to climbing with a strong focus on safe practices. This lesson is ideal for first-time rock climbers, as well as those that have indoor experience but have never climbed outside before!

What To Expect
After meeting your instructor, you will walk together to the nearby Morro da Babilônia, a popular training destination for the local rock climbers. Your instructor will take you to one of the routes that are perfect for first-time climbers! Your lesson will cover the key movement techniques and safety procedures used in rock climbing. The lesson is 100% practical - you will learn all concepts while climbing and practicing them on the rock! You will learn: - several principal climbing knots, including the figure-8 knot - lead and top-rope belaying - basic rappelling system - movement skills (body position, footwork, and balance) - climbing terms and communication - sport ethics During the lesson, you will help your instructor set up a "top-rope" to protect a route, you will climb the route perfecting your skills, and you will end the lesson learning to rappel. Of course, you will also enjoy the amazing views and beautiful natural setting of the climbing location!

5.00I had an amazing climbing experience with Ivan on Sugarloaf. We did a three-pitch climb and it was an absolute highlight of my time here. Ivan is a super knowledgeable, solid, and relaxed guide. He knows the area incredibly well—where to climb, what works best—and shares that knowledge in a really approachable way. His communication is clear and calm, and he explains procedures thoroughly, making sure everything is done properly and safely. I really appreciated how he gives gentle, constructive corrections when needed without ever making it feel intimidating. It made the whole experience both enjoyable and a great learning opportunity. Overall, I had such a lovely time and felt completely confident climbing with him. I’d definitely go climbing with Ivan again if I get the chance while I’m here. Rio Mountain Sports and Ivan made this a really cool and memorable experience—highly recommended!

5.00Fourth time I've climbed with Ivanir, its always fantastic. Also Thomas took me and my 12 year old nephew to teach him multi-pitch and rappel. A fabulous experience. Rio has some of the best urban outdoor climbing in the world - not to be missed!
