What To Expect
Cueva de las Maravillas
In this beautiful place we will be starting the adventure with an exhibition room where we will find explanatory murals of the flora, fauna and land of the areas near the cave, then we will make our way to a cave in which we will see Pictographs, petroglyphs made in the stalactites, an impressive mirror of water, then we can enjoy the iguanarium, we will see beautiful specimens of horses (you can ride with additional cost) and we will embark on the adventure in a beautiful labyrinth.
La Romana
After this adventure, we will have lunch in the typical restaurant of Bonao, where we will find typical food with the highest standards of quality and service. After a moment of rest, we begin our second leg of the experience.

Tour Cancelled and Refund is Pending Review

1.00The tour was canceled last minute with a reason that it “oversold” and now my request for refund is pending review. This tour should not have been available since Altos de Chevon is now closed to the public. You can only visit if you’re staying at the hotel. The tour was supposed to be for today at 9am. I got the cancellation notice at 10:22pm last night. Then a reminder email came at 3:01am to say “Your adventure starts today”. It was a confusing experience. I tried using WhatsApp to get a refund. The wait for the first time was over 3 hours, and it was about 2 hours for my second attempt. The person helped me to submit a request to get refund, and it’s currently pending review. Here are my suggestions: 1. Take the tour off if the Altos de Chavon is no longer open to public (the staff there says they’ve been closed to public for 2 months). 2. Don’t email a reminder if the tour is canceled. It’s confusing. 3. Offer a refund right away if the tour is cancelled. Do the right thing and not make it hard for the customer to chase the refund when the tour operator cancelled. 4. Set a reasonable expectation for WhatsApp response time. It’s not reasonable to expect people to wait around for 2-3 hours to get a response. Thank you.

5.00Thoroughly enjoyable day! We were picked up directly from our Airbnb in Santa Domingo, visited Casa De Campo and saw the amazing views of the river, the beautiful church, the unbelievable amphitheatre and the fascinating museum with the history of the Taino people. From there we were taken for a wonderful lunch (included in the price), horse riding and a personal guided tour of the Cave of Wonders (as well as seeing more iguanas than I’ve ever seen before in my life!), before being dropped back off at our Airbnb. Alex was a great host, and there were a number of brilliant tour guides we saw on the day. Truly amazing experience, a great way to see so much of the La Romana area within one day, and truly excellent value for money! Thank you so much for a great day out!

5.00We had an incredible time on this tour from Santo Domingo to La Romana! Our guide, Alex, was friendly, knowledgeable, and truly made the experience even better. I went with a group of friends and my partner, and we all had a blast learning more about Dominican culture and history in a fun and engaging way. Highlights included riding horses, exploring the breathtaking Cave of Wonders (seriously, it lives up to the name!), enjoying a delicious lunch that was included, and visiting Altos de Chavón—a beautiful and unique spot with stunning views. Everything was well-organized and full of memorable moments. Overall, this was a fantastic day trip with a great guide, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Dominican Republic!

5.00This was a smaller cave, but it was beautiful. Guide was nice and highlighted cave drawings. It does get humid in caves. You are allowed to take non flash photos.

5.00The cave of wonders was amazing. Villa Hermosa was so beautiful and peaceful. The Masipedro river view from the top of Villa Hermosa was also so beautiful. While returning back to the hotel guide passed by Christopher Columbus light house, President Palace, Independent Park and some other important places in the city of Santo Domingo was seen. The guide Mr. Robert was so nice person and friendly. I enjoyed the private tour.

5.00I recently took the “Romana: Cave of Wonders and Chavón” tour from Santo Domingo, and it was absolutely worth every penny! My guide, Alex, was exceptional—extremely knowledgeable, patient, and eager to answer all my questions about the culture, history, and economy of the Dominican Republic. The itinerary was well-thought-out, and lunch at a modern restaurant overlooking the water was a highlight—delicious food and breathtaking views! The Cave of Wonders tour offered the option of exploring a maze or horseback riding. I chose the maze, and while it was quite challenging (and a good way to burn calories), it was incredibly rewarding to find the palm tree at the end. Although the tour is a bit more expensive than some others, it’s worth it for the following reasons: 1. Private experience—No crowds, no headsets and straining to hear a guide addressing dozens of people. The day is all yours. 2. Lunch is included—A full meal with a view, and dietary restrictions are respected as well. 3. All admission fees are covered—This includes access to a gated luxury community with high-end shops, excellent photo opportunities, and a museum of Taino history that offers a fascinating glimpse into the country's past. 4. Convenient transport—It's a 90-minute drive each way from Santo Domingo, and you can just relax and enjoy the ride in a modern van with extremely strong air conditioning and plenty of space. If you’re considering this tour, don’t hesitate—it’s a five-star experience!
