Cannot overstate what an amazing experience we had. Guido was the best guide we’ve ever had, he shared such a beautiful perspective, culture, and history that enriched our trek so so much. Mendel was a super assistant guide, so patient and kind. We also cannot stop talking about how good the food was that our chef, Donato, and his team cooked for us. Our meals were fresh, healthy, and made us feel really energized. Our horseman and porters were professional, kind, and experienced, so we felt that we were in excellent hands. The organization, timing, level of support, and structure of the trip made this a true adventure-vacation, and we absolutely felt like hiking royalty. We miss being on the trail so very much and already cherish these memories.

This was a phenomenal experience. The highlights include: 1. The combination of both the Salkantay with the Inca Trail is wonderful. You get the natural beauty and challenge of Salkantay with the truly unique archeological sites of the Inca trail. 2. Our guide Alex was amazing. He shared his local knowledge alongside the history along the way, and set a great pace for us - neither too hard nor too slow. You’ll be happy if you get him as your guide. 3. The food is great. Chef Jesus kept us well fed, and put together a great mushroom ceviche that felt like a culinary innovation, never mind that it was in challenging conditions. 4. The porters and other staff are incredible at what they do. We tried on the pack they carry - it is remarkably humbling. The other things to know: A. The elevation makes the trek hard. So it will feel like an accomplishment regardless of how fit you are (unless you already live at elevation). The nice thing about this trek is that the Salkantay portion is at higher elevation, which makes the Inca Trail seem easy in comparison. B. We went in the rainy season, and we loved it. You have to be flexible about the weather, but our guide (Alex) navigated the change in conditions for us, guiding us on when to wait for views, when to hike longer or shorter, and made this seem like a nonfactor. Overall, if you are considering this trek, you should probably choose it.

This 6–7 day Salkantay and Inca Trail trek was such a special trip. It struck the perfect balance between jaw-dropping nature, history, and culture. The food was incredible—Chef Jesus somehow made every meal feel thoughtful and comforting, even at altitude. Our guide, Alex Mamani, was exceptional. He’s deeply knowledgeable, and even brought books and references along the trail, which made walking through these landscapes feel layered and alive, not just scenic. Our porters were endlessly positive and kind, even through tough days and some inclement weather that is typical in January. We always felt safe, supported, and in good spirits. Challenging, beautiful, and deeply rewarding. I’d recommend this trek to anyone without hesitation, and hope they’re lucky enough to get Alex and Jesus as their guide and chef!
