Plaza del Quinto Centenario
Plaza del Quinto Centenario, commonly known as Plaza del Totem, was constructed in 1992 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in the New World. Standing in the heart of Old San Juan, the plaza is said to hold echoes of the island's complex and often turbulent history, with whispers of the past lingering around the towering totem that dominates the square.
Cuartel de Ballaja
The Cuartel de Ballajá, a massive 19th-century military barracks in San Juan, Puerto Rico, once housed Spanish troops and their families. Now a cultural center, the building is said to be haunted by the restless spirits of soldiers and civilians who experienced the harsh realities of war, their presence felt in the echoes of footsteps and mysterious cold spots throughout the halls.

We wanted a quick activity in Old San Juan after dinner, and we enjoyed hearing some of the ghost stories of the main attractions

Our guide was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She clearly loves her job. We enjoyed getting to hear some history on our first night in San Juan. She gave us some hot spots that we want to go back and visit on our next trip!

The guide Jan was good. However, there were far too many people in this excursion (over 20) causing the guide to have to wait for people to catch up forcing the presentation and the whole tour to feel rushed and impersonal. No time for questions or for all of the group to get a good look at the sites being talked about. Guide couldn't do anything about the people in the group that were more interested in themselves than the tour but made for a less than optimal experience. Nice history lesson.

The woman who did our tour was very nice and knowledge….but we did not tour any places that you would think we walked and followed and places that we would have like to enter such as the forts and cemetery were pointed out and spoken about but it was disappointing and not worth the money.

Our tour guide Mylene was super awesome. Very knowledgeable and shared the history of many neat places in old San Juan. We had a great time and she made sure to give us cool memories as we walked through the city would recommend as a unique opportunity!

It’s a great night out for some thrills and history mixed together. We enjoyed the walk around old San Juan at night and went to a bunch of places to learn the history and the spooky tales. We rented the EMF detectors and they really added to the full experience.

Carola was sweet, smart and charming. We learned so much about Old San Juan’s history and culture, she started the tour with homage to the Taínos (indigenous people), folklore about the fortresses (we recommend touring them in the day) and we witnessed an epic stunt from a local black cat at the governors mansion (he seemed like a paid actor). Carola recommended going to the gardens of the mansion in the day (it’s free). Highly recommend this tour, it was very interesting and fun and easy and affordable. Also as tourists be sure to tip your guide a few dollars for a coffee/drink. If you visit when there might be rain, wear sandals/shoes with traction and pack a light poncho. Also recommend El Patio de Sam for yummy, authentic, affordable Puerto Rican food like their mofongo. And Cannon Club for a more bougie, romantic cocktail/dessert after the walking tour.

This was more of a historical tour than a ghost tour. I was expecting it to be like other ghost tours I’ve been on. I did learn some history and saw some interesting historical buildings.

The tour guide Jan was knowledgeable and passionate. We had a bad start as the original guide canceled due to illness and had to bring Jan in, not his fault. However, we we're already at the location waiting when notified and would have liked to be told sooner. We could have rearranged plans with friends. The history of the area was interesting but nothing ghostly or spooky at all.

Jan was a great tour guide. He provided history of old San Juan that I wouldn't have gotten on any other tour.
