I really enjoyed this tour especially the tour guide, Chalsa, makes it so much better. He is very knowledgeable and communicates clearly throughout the tour. He did a great job showing the points of interest and keeping the right pace to accommodate the group. I felt well cared for the whole time.

I had a lovely hike, Pablo was super knowledgeable, friendly and organised everything perfectly, so that we could avoid the crowds on one of the busiest days of the year. Super recommended! The group is small and feels much more tailored to us than being in a group with other 30 people.

We did the early morning Santa Ana Volcano Tour with Pablo as our guide. I’m going to write an honest review of our experience, which went from approximately 7am until 1:30pm. I picked this tour in particular because of the small group size and the early morning start. The group size was true to fit— we had 7 people in our group, plus our guide Pablo. We were picked up in a van that fit everyone, and our drive to Santa Ana (from San Salvador) was pretty smooth. We were told that we would be picked up at 6:20 at the pickup spot. We were there early, ready to go. Unfortunately, we were not picked up until 6:50 (almost 30 minutes late). While I understand that this wasn’t the fault of our guide (he was waiting for customers who were running late), it also didn’t feel great. The thirty minute delay affected how early we go up to the volcano— and again, for me the early hike was a big draw. Then on the way, we made a stop so people could eat breakfast. Understandable. And yet, since we were already 30 minutes behind, this additional 20 minute stop felt like another thing delaying our hike. My partner and I had fed ourselves already that morning, as we were prepared to simply get to the volcano as early as possible to avoid the heat and crowds. So, I had my own expectations, which is on me. But I think the team could’ve done a better job of honoring the pickup time and advertised schedule. I think it was a little after 10am by the time we got to the summit. Our guide, Pablo, was wonderful. He was kind and charismatic. He shared some interesting facts about some of the fauna on the hike. I’ve been on tours where the guide weaved in relevant history to the sight that we were hiking— I think that could’ve been a cool addition as there wasn’t much history shared. But that’s just a personal preference. I also appreciated how Pablo took care to make sure that everyone was hydrated and safe throughout the hike. If someone fell behind, we paused to make sure they had time to catch up to the group and take a rest as needed. Safety first. One thing I didn’t love— both our guide, and the local guide who joined us at the volcano, were checking their messages on their phones at different parts of the hike. Not the whole time but— a couple times during the hike I heard audio messages being played out loud. It’s a small detail, and maybe the messages were urgent. It’s just something I noticed that could be handled with more care— I come to a mountain to get away from screens and the daily demands of constant communication. I want to hear the birds singing and the sounds of sticks cracking under my feet— not the sounds of people checking their phones and listening to audio messages. Pablo took care to take wonderful photos of us all at the summit. After the hike, we went to lunch at a beautiful coffee plantation with an excellent view of the lake. All in all our trip was enjoyable. We were back in the city by 1:30pm. So, you can take this tour and still have a half day to explore. I can with good conscience recommend this tour. I think a couple areas where the team could improve is in timeliness and the checking of phone out loud on the hike. If they really wanted to up their experience to something that is rave-worthy, they could weave in a bit more relevant history to the hike and area itself. I would’ve loved to learn more about the Mayans and what their story and relevance here was.

Pablo was amazing. From booking to the start of the tour, everything was great. He sent out a message confirming pickup time the evening before our hike & pickup time was right on time. The local guide that came with us (Jose) was also so kind. I chose to do a hike for my birthday as I had done a solo trip and I’m so glad I did. I was a little nervous because I have asthma but love hiking & Pablo and Jose were both very kind about it. Going solo, you get to meet other people and it’s just such a beautiful experience. The views are breathtaking and so worth it. Also, the lunch we had at Lake Coatepeque was absolutely delicious. Thank you Pablo!!

Pedro was the best tour guide I’ve ever had, such a chiller 🤙🏽 I really like the fact that we got there super esrly in order to beat the crowd because when we were going down, there was a big line of people going up. We got to the top first and it was worth it, we had the view to ourselves. Plus, shortly after we got there, the « popsicle sherpas » arrived so we could enjoy a natural popsicle!
