What To Expect
Sapporo Snow Festival
The Sapporo Snow Festival (さっぽろ雪まつり, Sapporo Yuki Matsuri) is held during one week every February in Hokkaido's capital Sapporo. It is one of Japan's most popular winter events. The Sapporo Snow Festival was started in 1950, when high school students built a few snow statues in Odori Park. It has since developed into a large, commercialized event, featuring spectacular snow and ice sculptures and attracting more than two million visitors from Japan and across the world. The snow festival is staged on three sites: the Odori Site, Susukino Site and Tsu Dome Site.
Moerenuma Park
Moerenuma Park (モエレ沼公園, Moerenuma Kōen) is a large park in the outskirts of Sapporo. Surrounded by a marsh, the park has a circumference of about four kilometers. The grounds are covered in attractive green space and there are massive, dramatic features that make the park a very unique public space. The park owes its bold design to the renowned Japanese American sculptor Isamu Noguchi. Born in the United States, Noguchi spent a considerable part of his professional life in Japan and maintained a workshop in Takamatsu. In 1988 the city of Sapporo entrusted Noguchi with the creation of a park on the spacious grounds of a landfill. Shortly after the plans were completed, Noguchi passed away, but his designs were carried out and the park was opened to the public in 2005.

5.00Today we toured Sapporo with Katsuko (Kate) and it was a great experience. She put the tour together based on what we wanted to visit and during the transfers she gave us information about the city and its history. He was very friendly and attentive, always kept an eye on us. In the temple he explained the traditions and what we should do to follow them. He sought to interact during the tour with each of us. If one day we return to Sapporo we would love to see her

5.00Must do tour with a private guide. Kumiko,our guide, took us to a restaurant the locals enjoy and other sights. Finished at the Beer Museum 🍺. All the way around we had some great conversation and a few laughs as well. Highly recommend this tour and guide.

5.00I had a wonderful time with my guide Tanmaki-san (Tom-san), he was very knowledgeable about the local seen/cuisine and took me to additional spots in our tour. He was easy to speak with and made me feel right at home in this city. I hope to be able to visit again soon!

5.00We had a wonderful tour of Sapporo with Roy A. We loved the Okurayama Ski Jump with a breathtaking view of Sapporo from above. At lunch at the Beer Museum restaurant we got to try Sapporo's famous Ganghis Khan dish, cooked at the table. It was truly memorable. Roy was always attentive to our needs and showed us many things that we would easily missed. At the end of the tour he delighted us by singing a couple songs. Thank you Roy for such a wonderful experience in Sapporo. We would highly recommend Roy to all visitors to Sapporo.

5.00We are so lucky to have had Roy Aoki as our guide. My family and I agree that he was the best guide (of many) we've had so far in our 2 weeks in Japan. It was our first time to Hokkaido. He asked us what we like, explained the layout of Sapporo, and taught us the history of Hokkaido. It was also so interesting to learn of the indigenous Ainu history. Roy has so much knowledge and was fun to be with. He even sang for us! If we are lucky enough to return to Japan, we hope to see Roy again.
