After watching a video of Rick Steve's paddling the Dordogne river, we decided that this would be a fun experience during our trip to the Périgueux region. We enjoyed our two hour journey going down the slow moving river. We saw wild life, cliffs, grotos and castles.

Exceptional service. We used the pickup service in Sarlat to bring us to the canoes. At the 4th bridge our canoe became stranded. We were rescued, but the waterproof bucket stayed with the canoe. The next day our personal items from the bucket were delivered to the hotel. Fantastic experience just steer clear of the big boats!

I loved the canoeing experience but had an unfortunate time getting to it. I booked through Trip Advisor. The arrival instructions were extremely uninformative. I had to dig to find the meet up spot. It said meet ups were at 9:30 and 10:30. I was at the appointed spot at 10:20 but no van ever showed up. I did some sleuthing until I found the actual company name and called them. Turned out there was only one van at 9:30. The nice fellow I was speaking with didn't speak English very well so he passed the phone off to some young fellow and that's where things took a dive. This kid was RUDE (and wrong). He spent literally 5 minutes berating me for being stupid without letting me get in a single word in edgewise. At the end he pops in with if I still want to canoe I can (this was already paid for otherwise I would have just hung up on him and gone elsewhere). I said that's all I wanted to know, got their physical address and drove over. When I got there I went looking for who I talked to on the phone to confront him but he was gone. Too bad. I had words for him. So I took out the canoe and that was a very nice experience. Recommend that if you use this company book directly, don't use an intermediary and don't rely on their transport.

This was a really fun way to see the Dordogne valley from a different vantage point. The canoes were great, and the staff at Canoes Loisirs very helpful. We had a great three hours paddling down the river.

The canoe trip was wonderful. The trip took about 4 hours and we really enjoyed the pristine river and magnificent chateaux. The company 'canoes loisirs' were so welcoming and professional.

The 5 Chateaux canoe tour with Canoe Loisirs offered a nice self-paced 2.5-hour trip down the Dordogne river, amidst lovely scenery and architecture. The canoe ride leaves from the Vitrac riverside in the county of Domme (not to be confused with the town of Domme on top), and glides downstream to just past Beynac, and a shuttle then brings to back to the Vitrac base camp hourly.

We are experienced paddlers and needed to be back to our car in time to get to our cave tour. Baptiste at the rental counter assured us we could do this on time and reviewed the timing with us. For anyone else in this predicament- We were able to complete the trip in about 2 1/4 hrs plus a 30 minute stop for a sandwich. This was straight paddling - not particularly taxing - not a race - not a HIIT class - just not much floating to rest. We are in our 60s - just means you have to have the physical ability. Otherwise allow more time. That said the views were lovely. Combination of natural stretches of riverbanks with the beautiful chateaus of the Dordogne. Ideally we would have biked back to the start point - but due to fluctuations in weather we had to canoe the same day as the cave tour. Next time. It does appear that their other tour operator is at the terminus and that this combo would go quite smoothly. Also - we took the "canoe" per the kayak so we could sit upright - but used the kayak paddle for speed.

A fantastic way to see the Dordogne river, towns and castles. The operator was really easy to deal with, we picked up the canoes from them and then once finished they drop you back to the starting point. Highly recommend!

We had a great day on the river and this was exactly as described. The scenery was spectacular and we managed to dock en route for lunch easily.
