Do you recall those bloopers, back-of-house scenes on DVDs? Those scenes were precious. Called 'Uncut', they offered peeks of fun or unsavoury sights of how some blockbuster films were made.
On this walk, we take you behind the scenes, where there are no rose-tinted lenses, we share Singapore as it is. At least of whatever that is left.
Along Jalan Besar or ‘Big Road’ (in English), on the fringe of the city centre, of exceptional convenience for vices to thrive, we head off into back-alleys to view the Uncut version of our city-state.
However, increasingly, it is also a destination for the cool, the fancy, the hip, and in no time at all the new will soon envelope its intangible cultural edges.
A step too late and there’ll be no bling to peel, no hints of the industries that shun the limelight, those pages to turn and expose its underbelly goes crusty.
We’re still ahead of time, but barely. Join us, put on this blockbuster DVD and enjoy the "show" we have curated for you.

Definitely not going into 'Another' mall. The vicinity is rich with stories of early entertainment and this area is 1 of 4 entertainment hotspots until the 80s here

We've visited Singapore with four of our students (aged 17-18 years) on our way to international competition in Manila and decided to take a tour to experience the best of Singapore in two days. The tour was excellent choice, our students loved it, Daniel was very interesting, recommended some local highlights and I can only say, go for it!

We did the pinch of Singapore walking tour. Guide (Edwina) was very enthusiastic and approachable. Lots of history and fun acts about Singapore culture. Would recommend sunscreen, water and comfy shoes as lots of walking and was very hot and humid when we went. But great introduction to the city

excellent place to visit, fantastic food choices, very safe, lots to do for all ages, reasonably priced, easy to communicate as 'most' people speak English

Great and unusual tour of parts of Singapore that are off the beaten track. It is thought-provoking, thought-challenging (in a good way) and presented with a great deal of humour. You scratch the underbelly of Singapore - hearing of activities that are not usually exposed to tourists or even to locals. You see the many sides of Singapore within a relatively short distance. It is a city of many facets that are changing rapidly and the tour helps uncover the more hidden aspects. Jan is passionate about his city of Singapore and balances the tour well for the people in the group.

We thought we were extremely fortunate to have come across Offbeat tours and to have Jan as our guide. This tour was viewing Singapore from a different perspective - we could not find other tour groups that offer this kind of experience. The passion Jan has for Singapore is evident in his knowledge and entertaining narrative. He was engaging, humorous and always looked out for our safety and wellbeing as we manevoured around.

Jan's Singapore Uncut tour was a fantastic experience for the three of us. Although I'd grown up near Jalan Besar and am familiar with Singapore urban history, the behind-the-scenes stories relayed by Jan were new to me and very fascinating. It's clear that Jan is really passionate about the area and we really appreciated his dedication and curiosity in personally investigating the lesser known stories of the area. The tour was well-paced, fun, personal and we had a great time in spite of (or perhaps because of) the intermittent rain. I would highly recommend Jan's tours to anyone looking for something a little off the beaten track. 🙂

An excellent tour led by Jan who knew the area well and was able to share many nuggets of information and delightful stories with us. The tour brought us to places which we may sometimes walk past but never took a second look or consider the history behind them. Definitely a tour worth going on!

What an excellent tour guide Jan is. We felt in very good hands for this ‘different’ tour. Away from modern Singapore, to ‘the way it was’, and also still is for some people, gave us a good perspective of life for the less privileged. A wonderful insight of past entertainment. Jan shared many interesting stories of the areas we walked through. Would definitely recommend this tour

Not only was the tour guide very charming and friendly, he also stayed true to the title of the tour by sharing some unfiltered stories about the location. We got a chance to talk with the local resident and go in spaces. We got to see the contract between traditional and modern Singapore too. Totally recommend to take the tour.
