  Skip the pricey tour companies—if you’ve got a car, this experience is absolutely worth it! Just make sure you’re staying safe on the roads. Thor was incredible. He gave super detailed updates on when the lights were visible and even shared Google Maps pins based on real-time sightings so you had the best possible chance of catching them. He broke down each spot clearly, including whether the roads were paved or gravel, which made planning so much easier. He was also very quick to respond whenever you had a question. The weather didn’t really cooperate, so we only saw a small bit of the Northern Lights—but hey, we still got something, and we’ll take it! Highly recommend..

  If you’re visiting Iceland with a rental car and want the highest possible chance of seeing the Northern Lights, this is the only tour you need. Thor is incredibly, incredibly knowledgeable—he truly understands how to read the weather, the cloud cover, and the conditions that make or break an aurora chase. The spots he recommends are easy to reach, well located, and significantly increase your chances of seeing the lights. It does require a bit of patience and a few long nights, but trust me: if you use this self-guided tour and you have several nights in Iceland, you are very likely to see the auroras. It’s a much lower investment compared to other tour options, and the best part is that you can go at your own pace without being tied to a group. One tip: watch a few videos beforehand on how to photograph the Northern Lights, especially if you’re using a smartphone. I used a Galaxy S24 Ultra, and with the Expert RAW mode (available in the Galaxy Store), my photos came out great. Overall, this is by far the best option if you already have a car in Iceland. Highly recommended, and Thor deserves full credit for creating such a helpful, thoughtful, and effective tour.

  Thor from Iceland in Motion was great, he explained everything in detail and helped us see the Northern Lights on our first try!! He gave us exact locations where we could go to maximize our chances to see the lights. After a bit of waiting, the wonderful auroras started showing up! It was incredible!!   This is my third time in Iceland – the best place on earth – and this trip has been truly unforgettable thanks to Thor from Iceland In Motion. His guidance throughout the week was exceptional. He shared constant updates via WhatsApp about the weather, cloud cover, and the best potential spots to see the northern lights. Thanks to his support, we enjoyed amazing auroras, with conditions that could not have been better. He made everything so much easier and stress-free. A big hands-up for his outstanding work, his reactivity, and his patience – even when I changed locations again! I sincerely appreciate everything he did.   Shared tips for chasing northern lights with guidance on where sky would be most clear in Iceland. Able to comprehend and translate the solar signals, and to his best effort, predicts the activity of northern lights. The experience was good, as he is knowledgeable and could answer all questions relating to northern lights with a satisfactory answer.
