  The Thors Self Drive Northern Lights Tour definitely exceeded our expectations. We originally thought we would only receive messages about where the lights might be visible. However, the experience was much more than that. Thor stayed in touch with us throughout the entire day, constantly updating us on weather conditions, space weather and the best spots to see the aurora. We also received educational messages about aurora hunting, which made the whole experience even more interesting and helpful. Thanks to Thor’s guidance, we felt well prepared and supported during the hunt. I may confidently say that without his support it would be very difficult to find them since conditions were not the best during our visit.

  If you’re going to DIY the northern lights, Thor’s Self-Drive Northern Lights is the resource to use. Thor was friendly, responsive and extremely detailed and communicative about the status of the northern lights each night. He was very optimistic yet realistic and encouraging. Does this man sleep?! It was amazing how much he communicated throughout each night. He responded to my individual questions quickly and thoroughly. He also asked where I would be each night and gave me specific guidance. I don’t know how he does it but it was incredibly useful for me (and we luckily saw the lights on our second to last night!). I was worried this could be a waste of $ but decided to try it anyway, and I’m so glad I did.

  We came to Iceland to see northern lights at their peak. We were visiting for 7 days and had heard so many story’s of visitors that never got to see the lights. I spent hours researching best spots/conditions but didn’t feel confident until I came across the add for self drive northern lights assistance. I was a little hesitant at the price but with our limited time in Iceland and seeing the lights being one of our main reasons for coming I decided to give it a go. I did not regret it. From the first few messages it was more than just a when and where. We were constantly taught on what to look for, how to look at a map and pick a good spot. It allowed us to enjoy our holiday and not spend hours driving in the darkness not knowing what to look for. It was that good I was able to enjoy my evenings while keeping an eye on the updates. We were given rough time scales 9-10pm or 11-12am ect. Then a message would come through to say the lights were about to Make an appearance. Within minutes we started to see them. The information given gave you a good idea of what kind show we were to expect. Every day we were asked our location and a custom map was built for us. This was great as we were staying in multiple locations. We were able to see conversations from other members of the chat and the they all were given personalised information for their location. No matter where they were. This also ment other chat members would let us know what they saw and share their photos of their experience. One night we had seen the lights around 9pm and were just about to go to Sleep around 11.30pm when a message came through. Lights are about to appear. I stood by the hotel window using my phone camera to scan for colour. What I saw was a slight green haze that grew and grew and grew. I quickly put on warm clothes and me and my partner went outside for a better look. We spent the next 30mins with our own private show directly below the northern lights. The whole hotel was darkness. We had signed up for a northern light wake up call at check in that never came. It got so strong we could see it with our eyes just as it looked on our cameras. If it wasn’t for this guidance we would have missed this experience. This was the show we traveled to see! We would have wasted nights in all the wrong places and been another couple that never saw the lights. If seeing the northern lights is one of your main attractions to Iceland this is your best chance to see them at there best! Highly recommend. Worth every penny.   Super tips and very good care by Thor! We received practical tips and therapeutic knowledge about the Northern Lights. Thor has recorded a daily update. Very concrete and with a high success rate. Highly recommended!

  I am so glad to have found this self-drive tour! Definitely go for this if you have a car and would like to get some help with seeing northern lights. Thor was absolutely amazing in providing info, following up and pointing us in the right direction to search for it. He also stayed up at night to share latest updates. We were quite lost in the first few nights in searching for northern lights, then we found this tour which helped us to see the lights for quite a few times! We were also so lucky to be able to see one of the big flair with Thor’s help! Highly recommend !!!

  I really enjoyed taking part in the self drive tour. Thor made it very easy, providing a link to a WhatsApp group chat. He then would send location pins connected to Google Maps each night along with advice on cloud cover, BZ, solar winds and other things that affect the northern lights. His guidance gave us optionality each night so we could do other things if the lights weren't expected til late, etc. Plus my husband and I got to check out locations just the two of us for a more private experience. We saw lights 3/5 nights and had a great time. Also enjoyed the group chat where others shared their locations and photos. Highly recommend!

  Hunting northern lights is never guaranteed, but you’ll give yourself the best shot if you participate in this group and follow his advice! I would 100% recommend this to anyone visiting Iceland! Very responsive and clearly an expert, Thor made our trip even more magical!

  We stayed in Iceland for 6 nights over New Year's Eve with the rental car and thanks to the help and tips of Thor we were able to observe beautiful Northern Lights on two nights. Thor tries very hard and responds to everyone in the Whatsapp group. He explains everything you need to know about the Northern Lights and puts a Google Maps map in the group every night, in which he always draws the best places for sightings. I can only recommend it to anyone, especially if you have not had so much experience with Nordlicher before. Thanks to Thor! You made our holiday unforgettable and fulfilled a big dream for us!   Skip the pricey tour companies—if you’ve got a car, this experience is absolutely worth it! Just make sure you’re staying safe on the roads. Thor was incredible. He gave super detailed updates on when the lights were visible and even shared Google Maps pins based on real-time sightings so you had the best possible chance of catching them. He broke down each spot clearly, including whether the roads were paved or gravel, which made planning so much easier. He was also very quick to respond whenever you had a question. The weather didn’t really cooperate, so we only saw a small bit of the Northern Lights—but hey, we still got something, and we’ll take it! Highly recommend..
