Spend your morning by all your senses in the south part of Shanghai's former French Concession where you will try out over 15 local breakfast, such as pan-fried dumplings (sheng jian bao), soup dumplings (xiao long bao), scallion pancake, jianbing and more in some unique Mom and Pop small restaurants or even from hole-in-the-wall street vendors. This 3-hour small group walking tour is not just about local breakfast experience but also to discover the city background, the people and the culture.

What To Expect

Xintiandi

Meet your local guide near the Xintiandi area at 9am, and start with the taste of the fresh fried pot stickers in the alleyway surrounded by city high rises. Discover Shanghai's breakfast culture by walking through the backyards of traditional stone-gate houses (Shikumeng) which soon will be demolished due to on going urban renewal projects.

You will sample the thin noodles with various topping such as pickled vegetable, shredded pork braised in soy sauce, sweet potatoes with bean curd sauce. Sip a cup of the tea at the traditional tea shop in the local neighborhood.

Fantastic start to the day! Our guide, Jim, was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and personable. I went with my two retired parents and it was a great leisure walk (filled with LOTS of food) and a great way to really get to see the city outside of all of the tourist spots. Jim is incredible! This tour is excellent - informative and delicious. Covered a lot of ground on foot gaining great insight into the food history and culture of Shanghai. Hustling with locals for dumplings was fun with everyone involved getting a good giggle. Tea ceremony was an absolute highlight. Thanks Jim and TJ.

Another great foodie option with this company amd I had the lovely Jade again. Having done another afternoon food tour it is interesting to see the variety of different local options. As before it wasn't just about the food, we learned about the culture also as well as walking through the locale to walk off the food and experience how locals live without standing out TOO much. Thoroughly recommend if you have the time

I did the Shanghai food tour with Jim and it was awesome. He’s super friendly and knows a ton about the city’s history. The quick museum stop in the French Concession was a cool surprise, and every restaurant he took us to was a hidden gem with amazing food. Highly recommend this tour if you want to see the real Shanghai.

Really loved this tour - the best thing I did in Shanghai. Small group, lots of delicious things to taste. Particularly liked the tea drinking, and hearing Jim talk about China. Highly recommend!

Jade was a fantastic guide. Fun tour through a scenic part of town including a beautiful park. delicious, freshly prepared food. I especially liked the soup dumplings and egg pancake. Really felt like a local. Highly recommend.
