ZAGORI – A cluster of 46 stone villages, where local stone was transformed into wonderful buildings and streets. Built among the steep slopes of the limestone mountains and the deep river canyons surrounding them, harmoniously blending with them. We begin our daily guided tour from the picturesque valley of west Zagori, passing by Aristi, admiring the evolving landscape in the meantime. We stop at River Voidomatis, one of the cleanest rivers in Europe, where you can plunge into its icy cold water, should you wish to, and then climb to the villages of Papigo. We visit Ovires Rogovo, natural pools in a narrow canyon and then the village of Mikro Papigo. Then we get back to cross a 1,090 m. pass to get to central Zagori in order to have a magnificent view of the Vikos Canyon at its deepest (almost a kilometre). There we have a small snack with traditional pies (like spinach pies , seasonal fruits and local sweets and continue by visiting Dilofo, a village at the centre of Zagori.

4.00We arrived early to meet with our guide and to our surprise we were the only ones on the tour! What a wonderful start to the day. Alexios, our guide, made sure our stuff was stowed safely and then he asked if we'd like water or a snack. This thoughtfulness was carried on throughout the entire day. We saw a lot of places during our visit through West and Central Zagori: magical villages, each a little different, stunning bridges and breathtaking landscape! We stopped at a Taverna to try the local fried cheese and Tsipouro (at our cost) and for lunch he supplied the local spanakopita, water and a small sweet. Alexios was so knowledgeable about the area and his enthusiasm was infectious. He lives for this job! He made our day a memorable one and we saw and tried things that we may not have attempted (or known about) on our own. Totally Recommend

With a very knowledgeable guide, who loves the region and who showed us some hidden gems from the area...who wants more? Even Dimitris loves canyoning, you may consider yourself lucky if you will have him as guide for a tour in the region of Zagori.

Vassili made our tour feel almost customized and made sure to show us as much as possible. He was so kind we ended up developing a friendship over the course of our tour! The spots he showed that accompanied his descriptions were seemingly out of this world. We had an amazing time, and we hope we can return to Greece to see more of this stunning place with him!

5.00Our day tour into the Zagori region couldn’t have gone better. Alexis our guide was superb from beginning to end. The wealth of information about the different towns and the history of the surrounding areas never stopped. His love and enthusiasm for the area was infectious. We covered the west, middle and east Zagori and each had a unique flavour. Apart from the towns Alexis showed us the magnificent Vikos gorge which is visually immense plus the stone arch bridges which topped off our tour. Alexis always made sure we had plenty of water and supplied delicious spanikopita for lunch. The whole day exceeded our expectations and has left us with a greater appreciation of Ioannina and the Zagori area all thanks to Alexis.
