Climbing Pidurangala Rock was amazing and we think it’s something every visitor should do while traveling in Sri Lanka. So, if you want to check out Pidurangala Rock for yourself, we wrote this blog with ALL of the info you should know before you go! Sigiriya is one of the most popular towns in Sri Lanka, so it was a no-brainer that we decided to visit on our recent trip. But, we wanted more from the town than just a trip to Sigiriya Rock, therefore, we decided to spend much of our time exploring the less touristic things to do in Sigiriya.
Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress
Sigiriya, site in central Sri Lanka consisting of the ruins of an ancient stronghold that was built in the late 5th century CE on a remarkable monolithic rock pillar. The rock, which is so steep that its top overhangs the sides, rises to an elevation of 1,144 feet (349 metres) above sea level and is some 600 feet (180 metres) above the surrounding plain. Sigiriya, Sri Lanka, designated a World Heritage site in 1982. The Sinhalese king Kashyapa I (reigned 477–495) built a palace in the shape of a monumental lion on the several acres of ground at the summit, intending it to be a safeguard against his enemies. However, the king was defeated in 495, and the palace fell into ruin. The site soon became a pilgrimage destination, however, and it is now a popular tourist spot. Visitors begin the final ascent to the top through the open paws of the lion, one of the few remaining portions of the palace that are still intact.

1. Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. 5.00It was a very nice holiday. Thanks to Jason it was an unforgettable holiday. Through Jason we were able to explore the land in its diversity... through wilderness, safari tours, learning about Sri Lanka's past. Over time, a beautiful friendship has developed. With Jason it was also possible for us to get to know srilanka even outside the tourist attraction. Talking to people, eating with them, I felt very safe. 5.00Just great!! The tour, the whole trip... an experience in itself. It is difficult to find words that can express what I feel, looking back on this Fantastic Journey through Sri Lanka. Definitely the person who made this possible and made the tour, holiday so meaningful and special is Jason. Jason's not just a guide. He's the guide! Jason is great. Super professional, intelligent, emphatic, flexible, good-humored, speaks super English, good-hearted, down-to-earth, flexible.... He is more than just Pro in his job, he is Human and tries to give the feeling not only of being a tourist, but also to make you feel part of the country. He has responded to all wishes and needs. He is a great listener... His good mood and laughter is infectious. I felt safe and secure. I felt like Jason was part of the group... we were on the same page, wavelength... we talked and laughed all the time. 5.00A very nice holiday with many Unpacked. Wonderful beaches of Trincomalee , over the mountains of Ella to the south of Sri Lanka. Thanks for the very nice experience. From the carriage ride, the boat ride over the swamps to dining with the very friendly lady. A perfect trip and a very nice experience that I will remember forever. Thank you for the Help center in choosing the hotels. Jason has not only been a guide during the trip but has become a part of our group and a good friend. A very warm person. Very kind, Friendly and safe. Having a Private Driver activities and places to stay and of Couse professional tour guide with excellent service! a man of great words. we discussed all the details of the trip in July and traveled in December he did not request any advance. 5.00We booked a 4 daya trip around beautiful Sri Lanka with Jason and it was the best experience we ever made. Jason made every effort to create an incredible and unforgettable experience for us and even did some extra miles to fulfill our wishes and show us points that have not been included in the initially suggested schedule. As we wanted to see as much as possible we had a very tough schedule during the 4 days but Jason did everything to make it as pleasant as possible for us. 5.00Myself and my 15 y/o son were touring Sri Lanka for 11 days on Aug/2023. We had a superb vacation in this lovely country which was a great success and we owe this success mainly to Jason and specifically to our driver Kanchana. Just 2 days prior to our arrival, when we realized we will need a driver/guide to drive us and show us around so we contacted Jason. Jason was super quick to review our initial plan, suggest additional activites and comment on some of our planning mistakes. In retrospect, we can say Jason was correct in each of his comments. Jason was not availiable to drive us and brought us Kanchana instead. We have never regretted this as Kanchana is a very pleasant guy, knowledgeable in many things related to Sri Lanka (like plants, food or religion) and a great conversation guy. Kanchana has always drove in a calm and safe way and made us feel safe even in harsh driving conditions. Kanchana has always shared his knowledge as for what types of food we should try out and where to get them. Most importantly, he has warned us where NOT to buy food. Kanchana and Jason were constantly consulting how to solve the problems which popped up during the trip to make our experience optimal. Better hotel bookings and better attractions. I must say I was at least once amazed by a brilliant solution they have found to a problem we had. One thing I can say about Kanchana is that we were truly feeling we trust him to represent our interests. That means a lot. In summary I can say Kanchana and Jason were acting in a professional way and I would warmly recommend anyone visiting Sri Lanka to use their services.

5.00Highly recommended to anyone traveling to Sri Lanka who is looking for stress free holidays. Few weeks back after our trip and while looking back, we understand that biggest thank you goes to Jason and his team. The support that we had throughout our entire trip was amazing, from first messages while still planning to last minute of our flight home. Jason is truly inspiring- who really loves what he does, and he does it with the biggest smile! Our 2,5 week trip went super smooth, without any touristy traps, no incidents etc. planning was precise, always on time and with best rates possible. We felt safe and taken care of all the way! Jason- we are sure we will be back one day, and once we are - you’ll be the first person to call! And last but not least, big thank you goes to Ranga - our driver and travel companion!
