Dambulla Cave Temple

The history of the Dambulla Cave Temple dates back over two thousand years, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited monastery complexes in Sri Lanka. The site gained prominence when King Valagamba took refuge in these caves during his exile in the 1st century BC. Upon regaining his throne, he transformed the caves into a magnificent temple complex as an act of gratitude. The temple has been a pilgrimage site ever since, receiving patronage from various kings and dynasties over the centuries.

    This was my first time in Sri Lanka and I was on a solo trip. I was a bit reluctant as to what to expect. Premil came to colombo to pick me up to go to sigiriya. He was very friendly and chatty and put me at ease. On the way he suggested that we stop by the dambulla caves. This was great as I had been hoping to visit there. Premil was very informative and had excellent knowledge and just through this, made my trip very memorable and I hope to return again to discover the rest of Sri Lanka.

    We had such a great time with Premil and the others. We were 2 Girls from Germany and one other girl and he took care of us. It was a lot of fun together.
