Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
Minimum age is 14 years old and minimum shoe size is 35 EU
Hiking boots with ankle support are mandatory (available to rent)
Please dress in layers and wear warm, waterproof clothing.
Note that waterproof pants, waterproof jacket and hiking boots can be rented at the meeting point for a small fee.
We provide all safety gear. Please note that our specialized glacier crampons are only available for shoe size 35-50 EU. Those with a different shoe size are unfortunately unable to participate.
This tour is rated as moderate. Guests should be prepared to hike ~8km over uneven terrain

What To Expect
This longer glacier hike takes you to Falljökull, one of the outlets of the mighty Vatnajökull - Europe's largest glacier. We hike through a path of blue-ice and dramatic fromations, surrounded by the ever-changing landscape carved by the glacier. Our friendly and knowledgeable guides are with you every step of the way as we discover Falljökulls icy magic. This tour meets at our Skaftafell booking center. Skaftafell is located 327km (203 miles) from Reykjavík. The nearest towns to Skaftafell are Kirkjubæjarklaustur, 69km to the west and Höfn, 130km to the east. From here, we board a 4x4 bus that takes us to the foot of the glacier.

5.00We did the full day glacier hike / southern loop tour. Fantastic. Rebecca is an amazing guide! Great insights about Iceland, funny - made for a great day! Our northern lights tour was rescheduled to the night of this tour and she even made sure we made it back in time. Glacier hike leaders also great, knowledgeable. Will book again!

5.00Our guide, Lucie, was very enthusiastic. While leading us on the glacier hike, she also shared a lot of interesting knowledge about glaciers. We even got to see a blue ice cave. Lucie is also great at taking photos — she helped us record videos and group shots. There was a shuttle bus that took us from the visitor center to the base of the mountain. Throughout the entire trip, safety was well taken care of — we were provided with crampons, ice axes, and safety ropes. We spent about three hours on the glacier, and the whole experience was fun and very much worth it.
