Amsterdam Canal Ring
All cruises are captained by myself as the captain/owner of the Drift Away. We depart from the Singel no.7 and we will return to this location at the end of the cruise. I do not offer a fixed route, depending on your wishes as guests I will tailor the cruise to you specifically. Due to the custom design of the Drift Away we have access to even the narrowest canals of Amsterdam and are able to pass even the lowest of bridges. If you do not have any preferences I will put together a route which will give you an overview of the canal belt, a few of the small less travelled canals, the Amstel river and the eastern maritime area. As a born and raised ¨Amsterdammer¨ I have a wealth of knowledge about Amsterdams history, culture and the Dutch way of life in general. I love sharing with you about my hometown in an easy going manner, with a good sense of humor and the typical Dutch straight forwardness!
The Jordaan
We will pass through the pitoresque district the Jordaan. The name of the Jordaan finds its origin in the French word Jardin, meaning garden. Many of the streets in the district are named after flowers.
Little sweet and savoury snacks to nibble on with your drinks are provided
Extensive open bar with local beers, top shelf liqours, soft drinks and hot drinks. You will not be disappointed! I make a killer G&T with local gin

Bow's Journey was a fascinating and enjoyable experience. The boat itself was an authentic, old canal boat and our captain, Fokko Timmer, was knowledgeable and engaging. There were only 7 of us onboard so it was a truly boutique experience. Adult beverages and snacks were also included in the cost. It was our first time in Amsterdam and this was a wonderful way to see the city from the water and learn about it's rich history. I highly this tour.

A true hidden gem on Amsterdam’s canals: cruising with Bow's Journeys aboard Sophie with Captain John. John is everything you want in a captain—skilled, knowledgeable, and a genuinely gracious host who brings the city’s history to life. Sophie, a beautifully restored 1914 boat, is just as special: intimate, elegant, and thoughtfully updated (with a quiet electric motor and comfortable seating inside or out). We went at sunset—after drinks and snacks, we set off as the light shifted, the city grew quieter, and the lights came on. A magical, memorable experience. Highly recommended.

Hands down the best cruise! We’ve done several canal cruises and this is what we were looking for. It included drinks but it was not a loud open boat booze cruise. The captain was very knowledgeable and answered questions. He was very engaged with the group the entire tour. The tour is limited to just 12 guests and I appreciated that. The boat was very nice. It was partial outside and partial inside (in case it was cold or rainy. We had a beautiful evening cruise and everyone could fit comfortably in the outdoor seating.

Great small boat experience on the canals of Amsterdam. Specifically booked a 7:00 cruise to capture daylight and sunset. The lights are beautiful at night! Captain Fooko was funny and so knowledgeable about Amsterdam-very proud of his city. Small group made it feel very homey and comfortable.

Wonderful! Don’t need an introduction to the city just this tour! The view of the houses is the best and the history and information was well presented. Highly suggest for a great time!!!

We were recommended to take a canal cruise even though we have just finished a seven day river cruise. The Renaissance Hotel recommended this company and it was really great. The captain is very experienced and lives on his own boat. We saw many things along the canals that he had stories about that were very interesting. We would highly recommend.

My friend and I were visiting Amsterdam for the first time and were looking for a guided tour. We’re so happy we booked one with Jan! His knowledge and passion for the city is unmatched. We learned so much, and got to eat some delicious cheese cookies! It was nice to be on a smaller group tour. The weather was beautiful, and Jan went out of his way to answer questions from folks on the tour, which is really tough to do on the spot! Definitely a highlight of the trip, and grateful to support a local small business. Accidentally captured this photo of Jan which really sums up the experience if you’re on the fence.
