Spianada Square

The central square of Spianada is the most significant monument of the town. The name derives from the Venetian word for an "open flat area" and it is said that it is the largest square in the Balkans. Liston which is part of the square houses some of the finest cafes and restaurants in Corfu. The French were the ones who turned the Spianada into a public square. Before the nineteenth century, it used to be a large empty lot used for defensive purposes. Cricket matches are played on the Esplanade, the only place in Greece where the sport is played.

Alice was an amazing guide. So kind, friendly and full of energy. Her English was exceptionally good. The pace was just right; Some walking interspersed with the food tastings. Go hungry!!! You will leave very full. Corfu was beautiful!

Knowledgeable guide creating an understanding of different cultural influences on Corfu and food/drink/spices unique to Corfu as a result. Food order was backwards with sweets first and main dinner last.

We got into port and for your info Cruise passengers just need to take the 16 bus into Old Town. Super easy and just use your Credit Card - 2 Euros per passenger but really inexpensive. We met up at the spot and our guide gave us plenty of info on Old Fort and the History of Corfu. She was very energetic and you could tell she loves her work. We did some more history before going to our first stop. First Breakfast we stopped for Ginger Beer and a bunch of breakfast items. Then Second breakfast was a bread shop with amazing honey and butter. Snack/sweet shop was the next stop and some unique liquors. All along the way you got more culture and how Corfu came to have all this unique Food influences. Finally Lunch at a local restaurant with some unique Corfu only dishes that were very good. Everything was awesome. This Tour has very good value and well worth it. I highly recommend.
