So I am actually a horse trainer. I train jumper horses at home and my husband (who also rides) and I would never usually opt to do a horse activity on vacation, but we ran out of things to do and decided to come to Sólhestar while staying in the area. We are so glad we did! It was fun, it occupied a good chunk of time and the sweet Finnish gal who was our guide (i wish I remembered her name) was so lovely to chat with. The horses are very well taken care of - feet trimmed and well fed. I had never had the pleasure of riding an Icelandic horse before and their gaits are lovely. The tolt is very comfortable! Different from other gaited breeds. The valley is absolutely nothing special, it looks just like where we live in Central Oregon, but the gals that work here are fantastic and it was great fun to experience their horses. Horses are very well trained and I would confidently throw a beginner/someone who’d never ridden before on one.

A magical ride! The guide Emelie and the others in the stable were very welcoming and took care of us in the best way. We rode up on the mountain, left the autumns with Emelie and walked for about 10 minutes until we came to a warm stream that ran down from the mountain. It was very well arranged with jetty along the creek, but without being exploited. After an hour we rode back down again. Sólhestar is really professional and takes good care of both his horses and his guests. Highly recommended!
