This was such a highlight of our San Diego trip! The sail boat was so lovely, with so much space in the cabin for snacks, drinks and using the on board bathroom. Our captain Greg was such a delight with our group of ladies on a friends get away! Sunset was perfect and we had so much fun and also saw great sites from the water! Cannot recommend enough, will do this again next time I’m in San Diego.

Pack a jacket! I don't care how hot you think you are, that ocean is an automatic fifteen-degree dip and there is almost never not a wind. Also wear grippy shoes without a slick sole, or be prepared to just kick them off and walk barefoot. The trip itself was really great. It's very quiet once out on the water, and the captain was a font of fun trivia, pointing out landmarks on both the naval base and the cityside and telling neat stories about all of them. Whether we had questions about San Diego, sailing, or the navy, he just about all the answers. Three hours is a long time for just sitting on the water, yes, but just enjoying the sounds of the wind and water forces relaxation upon you. Sailing is like yoga, but with more ropes and pulleys. Definitely a tonic for the soul.

A highlight of our time in San Diego! Captain Dave was a great host. He made everyone feel comfortable on the boat, and had lots of interesting stories and information to share about the area. We saw seals and dolphins, submarines and aircraft from the Naval Base, and a beautiful sunset view of downtown. It was great to be out in the water with a small group instead of one of the big tour boats, and there are plenty of options nearby for dinner afterwards which is convenient. Would definitely sail again!

We went on the sunset sail. It was fun on the water. We got back safe. The people who confirmed our tour and checked us in were lovely. As we were leaving the dock, our captain explained it was not a guided tour but it was ok to ask questions. Fairly early on after watching him wind the lines (ropes?) on alternating sides of the boat I asked what the lines did. The captain informed me that we were not having sailing lessons, that it was a sunset cruise and that it takes years to learn the sailing vocabulary. Duly noted. Once I had been resoundly put in my place everything was fine. I wasn't asking for lessons. I was just curious: do they control the sail? The rudder? Some other unknown thing? He could have given me the most basic answer or even lied. I never would have known. I wasn't thinking I would learn to sail. It definitely affected how I experienced the trip and I was very careful about asking questions for the rest of the journey.

My Brother in law booked s sunset cruise for 10 of us. It was a beautiful evening as we sailed around the bay! I would highly recommend this sailing experience. It was seamless and our Captain Dave Hobbs was amazing! He was interactive and pointed out many landmarks and shared history with us! We had had Dave a few days before on a different sail and requested him for this cruise! We will definitely be back!

We had a great time. A lovely evening on a sail boat enjoying the beautiful views! The boat was comfortable and the captain was fantastic. The one thing I’d recommend is to have more local drinks and snacks to round out the experience.

We had an absolutely incredible experience with Sail San Diego! From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. Captain Rhys was truly outstanding—knowledgeable, engaging, and made the entire trip so memorable. We were lucky enough to see all kinds of sea life, which made the experience even more special, and the planes flying overhead added such a cool and unique touch. We even asked for a bit of a history lesson, and Captain Rhys completely delivered—he was full of interesting stories and insights that made the sail even more enjoyable. Most importantly, my husband couldn’t have been happier with the experience, which says everything. It was the perfect mix of relaxing, fun, and informative. We would absolutely do this again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable day on the water!
